Added some color with an airbrush and some accent vinyl to the unpainted Mega SST (light version). Winglets aren’t secured yet.

Nope,not really thinking about this little side project beyond when I'm working on it. It is Ed really wants to try on the D'light, so happy to give it a go. It has been fun and been refining my CAD skills with it. In that regard, yes I have enjoyed the logic of the build.

I was able to do this "correctly" by sketching out all of the key geometry first, and then extruding the parts from the sketch. A much better way to work.
 
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Nope but it was fun to do.

Jauch movement Clock is up. This one is called Wally - after my dad. Has a beautiful beat and keeps great time, with Barometer, Thermometer and Hygrometer its really a wall mounted weather station.

Here it is, fore-wings are PETG, aft-wings 3DLabPrint's Poly-light. My expereince wiht ploy-light is it produces shells sucha as wings with half the wieght ot PETG or PLA. It's tricky top make non-shell parts though. the boxy things are motor mounts, the black one PETG and the gray, Poly-light. even though I beefed up the structural infill on the poly-light it stillwas just a bit over half the wieght of the PETG part.

I'm holding the fuselage together with electrical tape to make these photos. I need to re-print each of the four sections to correct design errors.
I have all of the geometry for the wing-pivots but won't complete the latches and fore-wing magnetic pushrod servos until I see if this thing will actually fly.

Elevons are PLA reinforced with 1MM CF rod - mostly for torque transfer from the horn at the root which will be driven by servos in the fuselage. This is a temporary setup because it's easy and finding out how hard it will be to fly is what I'm most interested. The 11 inch prop was too big so I went down to 10 inch. I can't easily make the aft langin gear longer because the3MM rod I'm using comes in sections which aren't long enough.

I was surprised that with the battery, but no receiver, no ESC, and only one of the 4 servos, it weighs a bit less than 2 pounds, a lot less than Aerovrionment's but then I don't have an energetic payload. the 2200 battery is supported on a shelf in the back of the nose. I thought I was going to have a serious CG problem, but it may be that the battery doesn't need to be all the way forward. We'll see. I'm using a rule-of-thumb for having the CG about an inch aft of the trailing edge of the fore-wings. Again, we'll see.

I made the nose gear longer than the mains so that there will be positive AOA which I hope well let it fly off the ground. I'm not now using any angle of incidence, but may add a few degrees if the flight tests suggest it.

Now I'll be ready to go as soon as my reciever and new props show up from Aloft.

John - please forgive me, but what actually is it? Whats it for?

I design gliders to be as sleek as I can get them, and I also appreciate the beauty of a pure mechanical structure, but...?

I obviously have no idea what I am talking about with this type of airframe - its IS an airframe, right? But I am curious. To me this looks every possible fight disadvantage has been purposely built in to the design of a very strange aeroplane.

Looking at it carefully it seems to be something that might fit into a tube for a military applications where the front and rear wings rotate out to provide flying surfaces, and the whole thing springs to life and starts to work as soon as it leaves its receptacle. Is that it?

Observation? Aerosonde? FAF drone?

I have never worked on the 'hand-held' - for want of a better expression - drones, but I have done a fair bit of work on the bigger ones. Familiar with written military spcs I can quite see how something is supposed to fold up into a breast pocket cigar tube, but flash into life and annihilate a whole battalion or raging commies at the touch of a button.

But john you will have to admit, its about as ugly as a bucket full of butt holes.

It will be intereting t see what happens.
