Shipping Protection

What, exactly, does the Shipping Protection charge on Aloft orders provide and why can't one opt out of using it?
Thank you

When you add something to the cart there is an option to turn it off just above the "check out" button and the site will apply this setting to all future orders. Here it is turned off:

On our shipping page we detail it:

But here is a much shorter summary. Should something go wrong with the shipment we are able to process the claim very fast. Without the protection, we have to work at the speed of the shipping companies. This often times takes weeks and has no guarantee of coverage from them, and will be limited to $100 of coverage.

Why $100? That is what most all shipping companies include with a shipment. (International shipments = $0) We can add additional insurance via the carrier or a third party at an added expense. This is what we do when an order is placed with shipping protection, and we additionally stand behind this coverage regardless of the outcome with the insurer. Sometimes it takes months of back and forth to get a claim resolved with these companies, but we resolve it for you in days, sometimes less.

We do not require adding shipping protection. We do like it though and it has worked out very well for our customers that ran into a shipping issue. Aloft is well known for taking great care of everything we ship and this is an extension of that. We do not place things in envelopes or bags, we make sure our boxes are well padded and well sealed to give our customer's the best odds of a trouble free shipment, but as we know someone out there is shipping bowling balls and sledge hammers right next to our valued items.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the explanation Wayne. I accept the reasoning behind it. Your shipping has always been superb... except when you run out of candy.

"We just got more candy today. :)"
If this means that my recent order is candy free.. then I'm sending it back! Shipping Protection!!! LOL

Nope we did not run out this time..But was into the emergency reserve level.
