SD card problems

Aloft just up graded my original FrSky X9D to 2.3.15 firmware. It still has the original SD card and now when I open firmware page it lists "XJT_ACCST_2.1.0_FCC.FRK". Is this correct? I need to update the firmware on my X6R receiver, can I do it with this firmware.

Also I cannot open the images page, I get "2.2 : BMP renamed to IMAGES for con You can put your model BMP and other BMP color depth must be set to 4 bi" I have no idea what this means.

I am not comfortable using computer to download new data. Can I buy a new SD card with the 2.3.15 firmware from Aloft?
Do the new SD cards from Aloft contain images???

The X9D has 2 computers running your radio. One is the button and stick functionality computer and the second is the one running the RF transmission to and from your model receiver. XJT is firmware running on the internal RF transmission side. Updating receivers will require you to down load firmware for your particular receiver type from the FRsky web site, move the file to your radio and then use a special cable to flash it to your receiver. If you are not comfortable doing this I am sure Aloft can do this.

The X9D image format is PNG not BMP. again there is a process to have this work that someone needs to show you how to use images, are you in a flying club.

There have been a LOT of changes to the file structure on the X9D, depending on what version was running before you updated... The radio is looking for things where it is no longer stored.
You can pick up an SD Card from us. The card doesn't come with images, but I do have a folder full of them here... I could put them on for you if you like, just note the order.

Chris,
I had 2 questions, the first is, does the firmware that you loaded early this month [2.3.15] contain the firmware for my receivers [X6R and RX8R]?
Second was about the images. Are you saying that if I order a new SD card that you can add the images to it? What is the cost to add the images?

Thank you for your reply.

Probably does not include receiver firmware. There is no way to know which ones you would need. Unless you asked me to put it on. Then it would be in the Firmware folder...
I have a bunch of images that I downloaded from somewhere a while ago. I would not charge for that...

Flashing receivers using the X9D is possible however as this firmware is constantly being upgraded by FRsky there is a simple process to download your receive type from the FRsky webb site. Here. https://www.frsky-rc.com/x6r/ Once you have this firmware you need a special cable and some knowledge to copy it to the SD card and then flash it to your receiver. If you are not comfortable using a computer I would suggest you enlist some help from your flying club.

Chris,
Henny has suggested I go to https://www.frsky-rc.com/x6r/ and download receiver firmware there. Would the FrSky site have the 2.3.15 compatable firmware? I recall Wayne saying that the 2.3.15 was not done by FrSky but by a group working for the 4 international disrtributors including Aloft?

The Opentx firmware is not an FRsky product. It is an Open Source program and found at https://www.open-tx.org/ I have to advise you performing this upgrade requires reasonable computer operation skills. So if you are not confident get Aloft to perform any upgrades, this requires the radio and SD card to be sent to them. The upgrade is more then just copying some files to the SD card as the radio needs to be flashed and if you make a mistake you can brick your radio.

Why are you asking about Opentx version 2.3.15 as your first post said your radio had been upgraded already.

Henny,
I appreciate your efforts to help me.
My reason for for questioning whether the FrfSky web site had the firmware to update my receivers was based on the following input by Wayne.

"Uni is only available from the Four FrSky SERVICE Dealers, Aloft Hobbies in the USA and the others are in the UK, CZ and Germany.

Due to the threat of clone manufacturers we can not make this initial firmware available for download. We wish we could, but since FrSky does not own this firmware we have to be careful. (Cloners have already copied FrSky receivers and firmwares and sold them and been forced to stop via the legal system in China. In this case, we have made something that would be very attractive to clone manufacturers as it would get them around the FrSky ownership.)"

I have decided to order a new SD card from Aloft and have the receiver firmware added along with the images per Chris' post above.

Thanks,
Gary

The so called UNI receiver firmware is another private group working on specific older receivers, and they are doing a great job at it. With regards to flashing receivers using an X9D older style of transmitter. This radio was never intended to perform this function, however some clever people found a way using the external module bay 5 pin connector to allow this to happen. However the external bay pin outputs means you need to make a special cable with some of the pins reversed. Failure to do this could damage the TX or receiver. Make sure you label this special cable and also label the external bay 5 pin socket so you insert the cable the correct way around. This special cable is basically a servo cable with some of the pins reversed.

Chris,
I will be ordering layer today the new SD card with the receiver firmware for the X6R, X8R, RX8R and the images you said you had. I will try and note this on the order.

Thanks,

Henny,
I am aware of the modification to a servo cable and have made the necessary changes.

Good morning [at least here in Florida]. I have watched several videos made in Australia, is RC flying a big thing down under?
I have been in and out of flying since the early 2000's due to health issues. I bought my FrSky X9D in 2013 and really love it. Am a bit upset that they have made so many changes and basically obsoleted the original. I think once I get this new configuration in my brain I will again enjoy the X9D.

What kind of flying do you do?

I have been flying multirotor a lot and built some large machines with 8 motors, with 6 foot wing span, the only issue is the cost of batteries for multirotor craft. Last year I purchased a 80 watt laser cutter and now building a range of aircraft and loving building and flying them. The RC hobby is OK in Australia but shrinking as younger pilots have too many other distractions here.

Same problem everywhere.

Along these lines I like to ask people when was the last time you saw a kid in a cast? They just don't do much outside these days. (I'm a built guilty of the same at times.)

I have to force my kids to go outside... Although, they now have taken up magnet fishing in the creek behind the house...
