S8R Setup problem

I have installed a S8R receiver in a model that has dual ailerons. Channel 1 is the right aileron and channel 5 is the left aileron. everything works fine when using the receiver as a normal receiver. When I activate the gyro modes (stabilization, level, hover, & knife) the left aileron (channel 5) does not respond to the gyro commands but does still respond to normal stick inputs. All the other channels do respond to the gyro. In setup I've tried checking the "Aux 1" box, "Aux 2" box and even both boxes. No luck. I've verified that the receiver has accepted the setup changes each time. Any suggestions?

The manuals for Frsky's products do need to be (and I'm not criticizing you) dumbed down a little, I find I need to read them a few times to get the meaning straight, saying that. Have you set your transmitter to use ch5 for the second aileron?, that still has to be done, be they S, X, R and D series receivers.

These S series receivers are telling you on the case that the stabilisation for the first 6 channels have to be used for the labelled functions, second aileron only works on ch5, and ch6 is for a second elevator, both if needed, all none S series receivers you can set any channel to be anything, then any channel can be used for the second aileron.

The setup wizard helps when setting the ailerons, it asks if you need one or two channels and defaults to ch5 for the second aileron. You may have your TX set correctly, if you do, there may be something you missed in the setup, if not you may have a receiver with issues. I need to read the S6/8R manual again, Wayne may know more than me, I'm not a big user of stabilisation.

There is a forum by Scott Page here on this sight go read that another gentleman wrote a manual it will answer all your question

OK, here's the update. First off, thanks to everyone for your help. Second, I'm sorry to admit it was (as most suspected) operator error. The correct setup was to leave the Aux 1 box unchecked, but apparently there is a long time delay for the new configuration to be both loaded and then read (I'm using a STK) and I just wasn't waiting long enough when checking. Also, thanks to the comments above I did some more research and found out that FrSky has a new manual available for the S8R on their website which is much more helpful and clear. I'm still a novice with FrSky and Taranis and I appreciate everyone's patience.
