S-BUS into RB-40

On one of our gassers we have two RX8R-PROS connected to an RB-40 distribution box. I was wondering whether I could swap out one of the Frsky receivers for a 800Mhz ELRS receiver? Would I have S-BUS frame rate or voltage issues? Has anyone ever tried this or something similar? A more general question might be: how universal is S-BUS? Can any receiver be connected to any device?
Many thanks.

Give it a try, I'd think you would be fine. Sbus is a standard from Futaba, and as such is well defined. We have seen many flavors of it in the FPV market in the last 10 years though, making many people mad, eventually customers had to educate the manufacturers to follow the standard and not do stupid things with it. So today, you should only have 2 flavors of Sbus that I am aware of. Sbus and Sbus 2. Sbus 2 is similar to FrSky's F-port where telemetry is added to the data stream. I don't think anyone but Futaba makes Sbus2 stuff.

I'm not an expert on this, just what I have picked up over the years. As far as I know FrSky has stuck to normal Sbus like they should.

My main concern was regarding voltages - in the sense that the Rb-40 would be powering both receivers over the sbus connection. I think the RB-40 uses 5V for s.bus and so it should be OK for both receivers. As you say, I should just try it and see.... Thanks for your quick reply Wayne.
