RX4R won't bind to Taranis X9D+

Apologies if this old news. I recently purchased two RX4Rs from Aloft. They refused to bind to the X9D+ transmitter. I updated the transmitter firmware from 2.2.0 to 2.2.4, which did not help. Contacted Aloft and received this response from Chris:

"FrSky has started shipping their receivers with the 2.1.x ISRM (RF Firmware) You will need to update the radios internal XJT to the most recent... This is a pain because it requires that you update ALL of the receivers that you are currently using. [!!!]
I recommend writing older firmware to the receiver until you are ready to take on the total system update. I will attach the file that you need to downgrade your new receivers to make them usable with your transmitter."

Well, isn't that special -- update all of your old receivers in order to be able to use the newer ones! Thank you FrSky for making things so easy and convenient.

I flashed the firmware file that Chris provided to both RX4Rs. They now bind to the xmtr. I hope that this has no effect on the performance of the receivers.

Welcome to Frsky. Frsky is NOT a firm focused on making the consumer experience enjoyable. While Frsky does offer great value and powerful products there is no effort at offering this in a cohesive well organized and document manner to the customer. Frsky really aren't set up for the consumer, or the logical demands of the consumer. Rather they are aimed at the hobbies already in the know.

I hope you bought FrSKy for the power they offer, not for the low price on some of their product or ease of use. FrSky expects you to suffer (put the time in) to understand their disjoined configuration control.

As you learned there are at least 2 micro processor in the the radio that have firmware updates. The OS (OpenTX) and the RF section (ACCST v1.13 and ACCST v2.1)
I'd like to see this Aloft graphic made into a sticky as it really does cover the root of this issue.

There is a very dangerous flaw in ACCST v.1.xx.x. So at this date you should have no reservation in spending the hour or so updating all your ACCST v.1 RF sections to ACCST v2.1. It really is a no brainer.

Having made the switch to ACCST v2.1 I can say that the RF (packet) performance is much, much better with ACCST v2.1. (This wasn't the case with many of the earlier improperly vetted ACCST v2.0.xx firmware).

Well, FrSky has made a fix to a bug that was found. I think the fix could have been done much better, but it seems that was not in their skill set.

We are working to try and offer a much more elegant solution to this problem. For now, please feel free to let us know what firmware you would like on your receiver purchases and we will do this for you. Sorry for the trouble!
