RX4R Binding & Firmware Update Problem

I have a new RX4R that will not bind. Red flashing LED before and after bind attempts. I'm trying to update the firmware on the receiver to see if that helps, but I'm not sure about the menu I'm getting on my transmitter. All the instructions and videos I've seen that show how to flash a receiver show that the transmitter menu selection for updateing is "Flash External Device". My transmitter shows "Flash External module". Is that the correct selection, or does my transmitter firmware need to be updated? I am running firmware V 2.2.3 (ae5ac05b), 2019-01-07 on my X9D+ transmitter.

Hmmm... So the answer to my transmitter question was answered on RCGroups (using Flash External Module is okay). I was able to update the firmware on the receiver, but am still unable to bind it. I finally took another (unopened, unused) RX4R that I purchased at the same time as the other, and without flashing a firmware update, was able to bind it easily - no muss, no fuss. I guess it's a problem with the receiver. I'll contact Aloft and see if I can return the first one and exchange it for another.
