Ridge Runt Evo

I have been wanting to make a modern Ridge Runt for a while.

Why a Ridge Runt, they are a fun classic, and I used to work for Hobby Shack back in the day. I have always found them pleasing to the eye and they are a simple plane to build. Seems like enough good reasons for me.

So, I have been debating some options.
A basic all EPP model?
A deluxe all wood kit with modern features?
A deluxe wood with foam cores?

This decision I have been waffling on. There is good argument for all 3 versions. I'm starting to lean towards the last 2. A nice all wood kit, but we will also sell an option foam core wing. This might be the best solution. The wood wing will probably be an AG35-38 airfoil for nice lift and fun, and the foam core will probably be something like an RG-15.

Here is my starting point for the wood wing. Similar looking to the original, but will be built similar to the AH-100. It will be a 2 piece wing and probably a single bolt to attach it. This should be sleeker than the original wing. Basically the same dimensions. Or should I stick with the simple one piece wing with rubber bands? It is only a 50" span if we go for the stock size.

Speaking of span, should we shrink it down? Maybe a 40" span?

My goal is to have these ready in time for folks to get them and build them for the Sunset Camp N Fly event in 6 months. I started on a wood wing design last night:

Spar is much stronger than the original design, but still an easy build. The center of the wing will get the 3D printed core treatment.
Two piece wing and removable tail make this a 'travel in a small box' very portable plane. Ideal to just leave in the trunk. A thinner stronger wing for wider speed range would be a bonus. Two servo wing for airbrake facility too.

The kit is a 1 piece wing, but far thinner and far more acrobatic with a removable horizontal. I'd dare to say she is harmonious in her flight controls, just feels well balanced and urges me to fly her into some low level acro. I find her very enjoyable. More than I would have thought possible for her cosmetics.

Thumbing through this thread I realized I had not shown the internals of the plane for a while. Lots of small changes.

We have been refining and testing and refining. We are now in full production of the first round of kits. We will be shipping out the first units pretty soon, and will be writing the manual at the sametime. Since we like to use live manuals, you all will be able to see as we add to the manual. And your feedback will be able to be added should you find errors or better approaches.

We try to write our manuals for someone that has never built before. I think this will probably be the case for some folks building the Ridge Runt Evo.

We are looking forward to seeing your runts going together and hearing about your flights.

Here you go:

Be sure to use the discount code: evo4me to save big for our initial batch.

We are still working on the instruction manual, and just need to grab some of the hardware at lunch and the kits are ready to go.

Really looking forward to seeing a bunch of these flying at Sunset. What I thought was going to be a dirt simple project sort of escalated as they always do. It has been a lot of fun, and I'm excited to set them free of the world. For sure will be using these methods on future projects.
