Ridge Runt Evo

Yeah, I know.. I have had it sitting on a table waiting for the covering elves to complete the job. I just need to finish off the covering and test fly her! I usually enjoy covering, but these days I'm having a hard time getting motivation after a long day of other chores.

I'll be back soon, Wayne, to bring back your happiness! 😊

For those who don't know, I've been at home for the past week and will be here until next week, taking care of my wife after her gallbladder removal surgery.

Pleasure builder and covering, elf!

here some new pictures of the prototype its ready to fly, just waiting for the wind conditions for the maiden.

She flies! Sorry for the low quality images.

Glide tests went really well, started a little nose heavy, pulled the extra lead and she appeared to be spot on. Tossed her about 4 times. Save her for the slope.

The first glide I gently tossed her out thinking she might go about half way across the field, nope, she wanted to cover the entire field and landed by the barbwire fence.

Yeah, we are getting pretty good about avoiding trees and fences in the backyard. We were so excited that we would be able to fly in the yard here, but if there's a breeze, there is a vortex in the air ready to strike at the perfect moment. Heavier powered models like the T-28 soak it all up, but lighter models get tossed pretty well.

Back from the maiden slope flight. Woohoo she flies great. Very pleased. Right after launch I could tell Jaron was very comfortable as he was not conservative in his flying.

We had several people wanting us to put in larger ailerons, and we went a little larger, but more importantly, I think the biggest issue with the original Ride Runt design was the airfoil. The new Evo has a much better airfoil that pays a lot more attention to the trailing edge "grip" so I didn't want to put a huge aileron on. But in the back of my mind I was wondering. LOL Well, I think you all will be pleased with the feel in flight of the new RR Evo. She responds very well, and just feels very comfortable. I was actually surprised that the inverted flight is pretty decent too. She rolls nice with great authority, and stops when you stop. Is she the fastest rolling thing on the hill, nope, but I think she is actually perfect in roll. Feels really solid and very predictable. We had moderate throw and 20% expo with a touch of differential and she is pretty close to perfect.

Elevator feels really good. Stalls are good and she recovers fast. Could have used a little ballast as it was windy and she is light, but she did really well with the gusts. The site we flew at was nice and windy, but the slope does not convert wind to lift as well as many slopes. Still more than plenty for the efficient little Ridge Runt. I was having fun flying her in close, rolling, and just getting to know her. If it was not so cold I would still be out there flying her. She is a winner.

We will be adding a few cleanups to our files and start making the kits. Need to do another build for the instruction manual and ready to rip. Can't wait for you all to give her a try!
