Ridge Runt Evo - Build Thread Comments

Well, had the day off and basically never left the house. Completed everything except for installing the control horns on the ailerons and elevator. That was pretty fun... Haven't built anything like that in a LONG time. Did the Monokote hinging which didn't come out aesthetically perfect, but they feel strong and have good movement.

It will be hilarious if I total this thing on the maiden after spending so much time with it. But if it happens, well, I have other planes and I'll probably total those at some point too.

Hey Guys

Have you found the cause of the wing saddle versus wing chord length yet? Would this require moving the high point of the fuse
to move forward a bit? Would like to know soon.

Tom

I sure wish that the color of the 3D parts used for the pictures in the build manual was one which would show details better
than the Black! I have no problem with the color of the build parts being Black!
So many questions would be answered if the part was a light Blue or something which would not absorb all the light.

Yeah, I screwed up! I designed and built the plane around 1.25" aileron stock. This required a ton of sanding to get the stock thin enough for the airfoil. Somewhere along the line when kitting I mis directed my team and after fitting our different sized trailing edges I told them the 1" was the correct size, and in a way it is, it fits the airfoil well and requires a reasonable amount of sanding.

The good news is we have new custom shaped trailing edge stock just for the Ridge Runt and we will have it here late next week. If anyone would like the correct size, please email us contact@alofthobbies.com and we will ship it out as soon as it arrives.

I am very sorry for this error!

Since my plane is built I'll simply fill the hole with some scrap balsa and a little film.

I just went back and looked at some of the original Runt photos. Even those early shots with the RED 3D parts
show better detail of the part and the installation. Much Much better!

Yeah, that's what I did. Took about 5 minutes including the sanding to fix it. Seriously no big deal.

Do you think the shorter ailerons will have much effect on roll rate? I want to have the kind of roll rate you showed in the prototype flying video. My wing is built, but not covered yet.

On looking at my original RR, it looks like that had 1" ailerons as well.

The airfoil we are using is far better than the old Ridge Runt, as a result it responds to the trailing edge controls better. I think you will be just fine. Sounds like Ed is happy with his 1" ailerons. But if you like, we are happy to send you the correct size. You will be the first to have the new profile. :)

Ohh, pinball. LOL
I used to fix those back in my highschool days. Electromechanical and electronic. We had about 100 pins at our high school electronics club, and we made a lot of money as we were open for business at lunch hour. :) Great free education at a young age.

Balanced the Evo with some lead shot. Winds are looking pretty decent tomorrow, trying to decide if I want to maiden it here or wait until Sunset and then just huck it. If I maiden it tomorrow I'll try to grab some GoPro vid.

I built a 4 cell NiMh114 gr pack for mine. it was a bit twitchy, so I added about another 20 grams to balance it during the maiden at Los Banos. See you guys next week.. Neat little plane Hey Wayne it was one of those favorite days of yours there when everything was up and suddenly everything went down
