QX7S Rotary Encoder replacement part?

Kirkerik

New User
My rotary encoder is acting up on my qx7s. It often reverses direction now making it difficult and confusing to navigate the menus.

I don't see any replacement boards available at Aloft for the QX7/s...
Will boards be available once again at Aloft?

Is it the main board that the rotary encoder resides on? Hard to tell without dismantling ALL of the internals of the radio.

Does anyone know the rotary encoder specs or how many pins etc? I feel like I could solder in a new one on my board if necessary. I'll prob try some electronics cleaner first of course.

thanks,
Kirk

I wouldn't use electronics cleaner. Rotary encoders, to my knowledge, are usually always a disk with slots in it, and it uses an IR light and sensor to count the slots in the disk going by.

If you unbury the encoder, and it's open, try some compressed or canned air for cleaning.

Thanks jseyfert3, I didn't know that. Too late though as I have already attempted the electronics cleaner. So far it seems to have worked. We shall see... Obviously, compressed air maybe the best solution if there was a particle in there.

If anyone does have an answer to my questions above they still stand.
Thanks,
Kirk
