QX7 Legacy battery & charging

Chappy

New User
I recently acquired a used QX7 Legacy TX which operates on 6.5 - 15 volts. I am currently using a 2 cell lippo battery that also was included with the TX. Can I plug the battery's balance lead directly to the TX JST 'as is' or does that connection need to be reduced to a two wire?

The TX also has a three pin charging port, like a servo connector, on the right bottom bend of the case. A wiring lead that fits the external charging port also came with the TX. It has a 3 pin servo type plug modified with a keyway in the top and a 'clip' of sorts on the bottom. It is wired L to R .. red -yellow -black with a 3 wire JST on the other. Am I to assume I can use this lead and my lippo charger to charge without any issues?

I have Aloft's manual for the QX7 which I am studying but haven't found the answers.

Thanks for your help in clarifying this for me.

Yes, you can plug the Lipo balance port directly into the radio.

No, you can not plug a smart charger into the radio charge port. This radio was originally powered by a 6 cell Nimh pack, and the transmitter has a built in NiMH charger. The external charge port was just DC power in that powered the built in charger.

When running this radio with a lipo you will need to pull the battery out and charge on a smart charger. While a bit of a pain, you do not need to do this very often as a fully charged lipo will last a long time in the X7. They do not use much power, very efficient radios.
