Questions about this cool Emax motor you are carrying at Aloft.

This looks like an excellent back yard flyer motor, any additional specs or the rest do you have on it?

@Jarron can probably give you some better specs if you give him an idea of what you are looking for from the motor. Emax performance numbers tend to be less than ideal. They simply measure some numbers from different props and share those, I have seen them publish numbers that are outside the motors capabilities to supply without overheating.

Wayne, I hear you, it's a guessing game, and it's been this way for decades. You have to be hands on, experiement with the range, it's at best, we can whittle down to some degree of what is appropriate for scale to use application. Meanwhile, I have a loyal and just good person customer deciding to stick gear that can handle 4-5 pounds of flight, onto my Extra which is designed for the 250 gram, back yard flyers...

I do like Emax dealing with them directly, they are a class act, us in the west need to fill in the gaps I suppose in their case, even basic stuff along what their gear should be doing, powering, all that... I am impressed too with the quality. I see this lonely little motor, qty 1, and see it's specs and know it's just fine for these 250 gram scale of models.

I have recommendations, etc. on and on, but it's not some numbers the manufacturers or others put out, it's hands on and taking them myselves. I wish I had that little motor in my hands right now, I would give you better input upon it's capacity and put it into some degree of the best spot you can use it for.

Well, if you like Jarron can run some calculations and dial in the entire system for you. Just need to know your estimated AUW, and the level of performance you would like for that model. This is something we do every day here. Jarron is the master at this. Emax motors are easy to calculate for.

I agree, Emax has always been great to work with, as have almost all motor manufacturers. I like their servos a lot too. Sadly they have been slowly dropping motors from the line up over the years.

When I started into the micro's and backyard flying scale it was a lot of trial and error with mostly error. I opted to use Willie Nillies as my starting point on the Backyard flyer scale, ie. 250 grams or less and came up with a combo that significantly outperformed theirs with no increase in weight of any noticeable value. I recommend the combo for the Twin Boom 250 and the Extra 250, with the line up shown here on the Extra. https://happyrcflyer.com/extra-250/ I'm getting 680 grams of thrust which is overkill for the 250 gram or less planes, I barely lay on the throttle for regular flight and have plenty to spare for when I need it. In my experience the numbers on paper are only a starting point, you still need to be hands on to find the best fit for the combo and I'm careful to make sure nothing is getting too warm so nothing is being pushed too hard. It would be cool if you were able to put together a package for my kit buyers on the gear shown, I am staying out of the gear gambit to avoid being spread too thin.

While we are at it on gear, my smallest plane comes in at 80 grams, 21" wingspan, it's called the Mini Jenny stick. I'm sharing the rabbit trail of electronics I used and/or recommend for it. It took a great deal of effort finding just the right combo for this class of plane, it's also something I would rather send my customers over to you for the gear so it's a one stop shop rather the spread out all over the place.
