Hi Guys,
I know there is a mild interest in PSS, and from a model/academic point of view maybe more than mild interest.

So, Since Jure and I have embarked on the DH108 Swallow project, I thought maybe we could have a place for us all to put our cadidates for PSS. In the best case the full-sized aircraft should be a good subject for a scale size model without too much modification to wing area, or slimming down etc - such as the DH108 and the new one below.

- how about this one.

This is a forerunner to the U2, the Lockheed CL282. Note the generally similar appearance to the U2, except this one has a more Starfighter-like fuselage with a T-Tail. Remember the F104 Starfighter with its tiny stubby wings ? Well essentially this is an F104 thats been through a huge wing stretch programme.

I'm liking it at 72" or so.

So if you have any candidates, post them here and lets all further our collective knowledge a bit.

Your U2 based thing makes me jump to the Canberra.

Those wing mounted motors would make this a pain in the butt.

I had them flying all arond me as a kid, Wayne, from RAF Bassigbourn in the mid '60's.

AS you say the wing mounted engines are a bit of a pain, but as vac formed super light shells? Might work OK.

Cheers,

Doc.

I would prefer something not so wing typed. XFY-1 Pogo... Its like a cross-delta?
see picture here
Wow, Chris - that would make a great glider! Look at all that aspect ratio and the super skinny low drag fuselage.

Honestly, buddy, if I was asked what plane would make the most unsuitable subject for PSS that would probably be it.

What are you thinking?

Doc.

if you decide, can anybody offer a better choice than an U2 high aspect ratio wing? may I get a 2nd opportunity with a t-33

(although I like the f-86 sabre a far bit more)

Small world sometimes, but I sat next to the guy that owns and operates the plane pictured above. We were flying back to the west coast on an airline. He was heading home during a break in air shows. For sure the best person I have ever sat next to on a commercial flight. Super nice guy, was interesting to learn how his business works.

Sorry for the redirect.. Back on subject..

I thin this kind of story adds to the general content.

during ww2 the germans did some research on fighters that can operate at high altitude. there was a type of focke wolf with larger fuse and wing H-190 or Ta 152
that's suitable as performer on diff slopes

for a split of a second I thought don't post again, but when will Konrad be back again? For some PSS stuff...

Lynsel made a Canberra for the Los Banos Scale PSS event over 20 years ago. I helped to launch it. She flew really well. It was pictured in the RCSD back in the day.

I remember Lynsel Miller from the first time we came to USA in 1986. He had HUGE workshop.

Good days.

Always liked the Ta 152, but lots of models out there for that one...?

Does have the advantage of making an FW-190 from the same fuselage. (more or less..)

Looking at it, I think that Lynsel may have cheated and put the engines on a diet - but not the fuselage.

With great respect, it looks a bit wonky to me.

There was also a Spitfire that had wing extensions for high altitude aerial photography, but it really didnt look too much different.

Loads of stuff out there - just have to find it. A lott of the WWII stuff could be flown pretty much to scale.

Mosquito!

More useful info: This is the UK Power Scale Soaring Association (PSSA) - yes there is a club.

I think they might be a bunch of PSS Artists...Sorry, couldnt resist that one...:p

Ooh, PSSS, yes, I like.
I've been toying with the idea to do an F-27 or and L-29 (getting tired of seeing too many L-39)
