Prusa Printers for sale

Sounds like first layer adhesion issues. This is one of the most important little things you will soon master.

We were last using the textured plate. The printer stores defaults as each plate has a different thickness. So if using the smooth plate you need to go into
Settings/hardware/steel sheet
then select Smooth 1.

It is not a bad idea to run the recalibration script on that same page since the printer has been shipped, tolerances may have shifted some.

When you change plates, just tell the printer, and once it is calibrated you should not need to recalibrate until you replace the printer sheet, or have adhesion issues.

It is also important to make sure your build sheets (plates) are clean. The sheets is cleaned with a little sponge and some mild dish soap.

I think Rafael may link some videos for you too.

this videos should help you with it

The Prusa printers are very intelligent, they are capable of creating the first layers perfectly.
However, to achieve this result, it is necessary to calibrate the printing surfaces, both the smooth and textured PEI,
which have two different thicknesses. Therefore, it is essential to perform the calibration and select the correct settings.
The interesting thing is that you can calibrate each surface separately, and the printer will save these settings.
After performing the calibrations, as I used both surfaces, I always kept them calibrated and saved in the printer's memory.
So, when switching between one and the other, you just needed to select "smooth" or "texturized," making the process simple, as the first layer was already calibrated.

i can do a better explanation if you like we can do a video call

Wayne, Rafael,

Thanks for the responses that all makes sense. I’m currently 77% into the tree frog test print. The base layer isn’t great but it’s working so that’s good. I read on Prusa’s web page that glue stick helps so I did that. I’ll check out the video too too.

I’ll let you know how I get on.

For PLA you don't need glue stick. When the first layer calibration already has been done.

Setting up that first layer on any printer is important. Read up on that process and perfect it, you will need that skill as you move into more exotic materials.

Also, try the textured plate, I think you will like it.
