PROJECT: OK Model Pilot Zero Sen as a PSS craft

jure

Very Strong User
inherited a partially built 52" wing span balsa Zero , by Pilot.
everyone listing comparables , indicates that it is a rare kit...
outerzone link

as it did not have installed servos of any kind , I did the modification to dual Hitec 11g aileron servos .
installed also a good 17g Hitec elevator servo.
I am thinking about skipping the rudder servo altogether for now.
of course, no landing gear.

testing the CG, it seems that the AUW is going to be about 1250g. ( note this is about 1 kg less than the engine powered complete model AUW spec )
this brings the wing loading of the PSS configuration to about 16 oz/sqft , and a cubic loading of 9.1 ( whatever the english units happen to be after the math (grin) ).

my concern is the viability of this project as a PSS model.
is this effort worth pursuing , or this is going to be a fine lead sled which I could only fly three times per year ?
opinions , recommendations ?

Thats going to be a really nice PSS model Jure.

I wouldnt worry too much about the rudder either to be honest. Its not likely to be very effective even if you put it in.

I know it has a blunt front but I'm sure it wont make much difference. I have seen a few of these fly in the UK PSS group - really nice.

I think you'll have a lot of fun with it.

Cheers,

Doc.

Thanks Doc !
I'll continue with the work and hopefully have it ready soon.

Nice models - Pilot made some great kits! They had a big fire years ago and lost all of the tooling, etc. :(

Don't know how well that airfoil will do on slope, but it should look great in the air!

update:
test glide completed with success.
AUW is 1550g , heavier than what I estimated earlier, and still less than the AUW of the powered plane.
