Opinions on gimbal protectors

I recently purchased a new X10S E that comes in a soft case with gimbal protectors. I then purchased some Grand Lotus Stick ends and find that they don't fit the gimbal protectors. I am curious how important the protectors are. My radios have never had these protectors, but they all came in soft cases. I'd like to get some advice.

I've bent far too many gimbal axel shaft not using these protector And this was when I stored and moved my TX's in hard cases.

I make my own from junk (tubes) I have laying around. I've even commissioned Chris at Aloft to make me custom protectors. Worth many times what I paid!

Thanks for the detailed response. I put the original sticks back on. They stay in place well and I can see the possibility of damage in a soft case especially. I looked at modifying the original protectors but I can see that an attempt might ruin them. I only tried the Grand Lotus sticks because the factory sticks are slightly long for me to get full travel, but they may be fine. I haven't actually flown using it yet and it may not even be an issue.

I'd like to see Aloft sell some custom protectors that fit the Grand Lotus stick ends. Someone probably prints them, but I haven't looked yet.

We can do that. Send Chris and email at contact@alofthobbies.com and let him know what you need. He or Nigel can draw it up and print them and you can lety us know if they work well for you. If they do, we will make up more and offer them on our site.

That sounds very good. I think something like the factory protectors, but with a bigger tube in the middle to fit the Grand Lotus stick ends, which are the widest, with maybe an insert for Lotus sticks if they don't fit the factory protectors. I'll send Chris an email tomorrow. Thanks.
