No sound from Replaced SD Card

New User
I bought a used (abused?) X9D plus 2019 SE that came with no SD card. I updated the firmware to 2.3.15 and loaded a new SD card with 2.3v0039. I still have an SD alarm that says "expect SD 2.3v0039". The WAV files play fine on the computer but not manually (or auto) on the radio. I suppose the radio's audio could be inop but I assume the alarm means the sounds won't work. The radio has two broken toggle switches ( G and H ) but, in general, works on the bench.
Any ideas?

Probably have the files in the wrong spot on the SD card. Must have the archive unpacked and all of the folders located in the root of the SD card, they can not be in a sub folder. For example, I'd guess you have them in a folder called: SD 2.3v0039. or something similar.

Hope that makes sense.

It has been a while since I used OpenTx, but that alarm in the beginning is telling you the version of the OS on the radio does not match the SD card version. Generally, it doesn't make a difference as the SD card format doesn't change often, but you still should get them in sync. Also, you can buy replacement switches if you or someone you know can do a little soldering.

The SD announcement occurs when the firmware flashed to the radio does not match the SD card contents. When you say you flashed the OTX firmware to the radio you can check if this is the case by going to the system menu and advance to the VERSION page. Secondly if you down loaded the SD card contents the audio files will be in the correct folder. I'm guessing you were not a OTX user previously?

This error will also show if he has the wrong folder structure... Right?

If he had the wrong SD version, he should still have most of the sounds working. Right?

Hi Wayne. He said the radio came without an SD card. So I am not confident he has actually completed the SD card download completely nor actually flashed the radio correctly. Also maybe the volume is turned all the way down. He did not indicate he gets the "Welcome to OpenTX" message at power up.

He could check by putting hooking up to a computer, or putting the card in a reader. In the root directory is a file named "opentx.sdcard.version" Just a plain text file , so using Notepad or similar is fine. All it has is the SD version number. One can even edit it to match the OTX version, if one wants to cheat...that would make the message go away. But is not at all the correct solution...

Yes you are correct. However changing the file named "opentx.sdcard.version" still doesn't confirm what has actually been copied to the SD nor what version he flashed to the radio. I would again ask to check the firmware version number by going to SYSTEM and advance to the page which shows the current firmware version flashed to the radio, then download the same version of SD card contents and he will be done.

Of course, you and Wayne are right.

To NFBrown -
Turn the radio on.
Long press the menu button. This starts you with the TOOLS page.
Press the PAGE button once, to take you to the SD CARD page.
Below the title should be listed these folders:
[EEPROM]
[FIRMWARE]
[LOGS]
[MODELS]
[SCREENSHOTS]
[SCRIPTS]
[SOUNDS]
[UTILITIES]
and
opentx.sdcardversion (without brackets)

If those aren't there, then the Downloaded files have not been copied to the card in the correct place. You should delete everything on the card, and recopy from the download, so that the folders (and one file) are all listed at the top level, and not inside any other folder.

If they are listed as above, use the "-" key to move to the [SOUNDS] folder, and when highlighted, press "Enter"
Inside that are folders for various languages. For English, go to the [en] folder and select that. (the other languages are similar)
Inside there is one folder called [SYSTEM] and all your wav files.

If no .wav files, then they either did not get copied over, or are somewhere else in a wrong location.

Well I've learned a lot. One of the things I've leaned was the speaker was unplugged. That'll teach me to open the case and LOOK!
Thanks, everyone, for the help.
Nick
Used gear is always to check, audio inop is not acceptable for your task. Glad you know what is inside, wrong...
