New Typhoon MkII

Colour scheme by Ryan Jensen.

More pics coming soon.

See, handle, discuss, and try the new Toccata, Spada and Alpenbrise models at Camp & Fly!

I cant come, but I'm sure Red and Ryan Jensen will do a great job of filling in all the details.

Cheers,

Doc.

And my Forza!

A thought just crossed my mind… When the original 2m Stormbird came out years ago, it was presented as the MK2 Typhoon everywhere. The Toccata is essentially an evolution of a Stormbird to my way of thinking, so should it really be known as the Stormbird MK2? Or how about Typhoon Evo?

Or, no mention of the Typhoon at all in descriptions on retailer’s websites/forums?

To explain for those easily confused:;)

The Typhoon Toccata is the first INTENTIONALLY designed replacement for the orginal 2M Typhoon bird. I took the original design and did what I could to improve it all over with an added dose of technology mixed in for a performance boost, but at the same time trying to retain the Typhoon "Feel". The curves on the fuselage are designed to resemble the original, and the fuselage is certainly not the slimmest around - even though the wing design is completely different as so much more has been learned in the last 20 years. Summing up: All of the new Typhoon Toccata design is a logical progression of my thinking on the orginal.:p

To de-confuse:

The Stormbird 2M and the Forza 2.5M were interim designs, quite likely improving on the Typhoon's peformance, but not Typhoon evolutions at all. A lot of people love the Forza for its exciting performance and especially its good manners. But these were different models with none of the actual legacy or even much of the thinking that went into the Typhoon - unless you count that all of the aforementioned model designs came from my mind, that is.

I suppose if you placed an original Typhoon on the deck right next to a Typhoon Toccata, then the sharp sighted might be able to see who designed both models, and most would quite likely identify a design progression beteen them. I'm not sure the same could be said of a Stormbird and Typhoon side by side - I think it would be hard to see a Typhoon legacy in a *Stormbird.

In fact the same can be said for the Alpenbrise which I freely admit is what I believe should have happened to the Alpina, instead of the 2,000, 3,000, 4,000 versions which at least in my opinion were no improvement; in fact were several steps back in overall looks and performance when compared to the classic orginal. I honestly think that side by side with an Alpina, my Alpenbrise has a lot more in common with the gorgeous original than any actual Alpina derivative. But there - beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

*No longer available legally now anyway.

No confusion on my part here whatsoever, I’m referring to the description of the 2m. Stormbird by yourself on RCG back in August 2015 as “It’s here… the new Typhoon Stormbird”, and “Basically this is my Typhoon modernised”.

It’s no biggie, and you know I contributed suggestions on here that you’ve incorporated into the Toccata design plus the important dimensions of the Typhoon during the design process.

I helped you out because I really like your models, and wish you every success with the Toccata. As you are aware, Hyperflight’s Toccata order has been stuck in Shanghai customs, so it could be a while yet (it’s preordered). The price isn’t bad at all for the spec. so I’m really looking forward to checking it out.

Cheers

Really appreciated the help with the old Typhoon measurements, Jonty - crazy though it might seem, I never did get a test model from RCRCM. I do have a right hand wing though! - No idea where it came from.

The 2M Stormbird model didnt last long until I improved it to make the Forza with the increased wingspan, and to be honest, whatever expectations I had for the 'Bird as a replacement Typhoon were all lost in bad construction by the original manufacturer. The standard of the produced models was, to say the least, disappointing.

In fact apart from the general fuselage shape, the Stormbird and the Forza are pretty different in many ways, as are the others: Schwing Vs Corsa, Firebird Vs Sessanta, as I re-designed and re-moulded all the old models following firing my orginal manufacturer - but thats another story.

Back on the Toccata, it wasn't until pretty recently that I took a really deep look at a possible Typhoon replacement, with similar objectives to the orginal design but a lot of improvements. I think its ancestry can be seen in the new design - or at least I hope so.

Cheers,

Doc

Hi Guys - Following the successful if somewhat eventful maiden of the Typhoon Toccata by the Jensen team at Sunset earlier this year, the CRG version (Edge 2020-X) in Electric form was flown over the weekend. As you can see its very much in "CRG Green" plumage.

No flight reports yet except that its 'Hot" but its looks pretty good and they look very happy. I'll post reports as and when avaialble

Now hear this! A shipment of these - and other Aeroic Gliders is almost ready to ship to Aloft.

Note: The Standard S, Strong SS and Light L verson of the Toccata are all readily electrifiable and can be ordered as Glider or E versions if you dont want to remove the nose by yourself.

All pics courtsesy of CRG.

Cheers,

Doc.
