New Typhoon MkII

Perhaps it was F3B. It was quite a while ago. When you fly with great pilots you get better. Not that they aren't going to still win, but last F5J contest I managed to get 91% of the winning score. That put me middle of the pack, but I was happy to be there, and most importantly, we all had fun.

"I just came back from flying in Evergreen Colo.(8K ft) and can report that the air down here at sea level is like flying in syrup. I almost never over shoot the landing zone. At altitude the ship usually just whiz by as there is no air to slow down the glider."

I fly near Evergreen a lot (Golden, CO), primarily HG, and often one of my slope foamies. Particularly fun with my 48" Moth.

While I won't be flying a Forza there, you observations about whizzing by with no air to slow down the glider is why I prefer the Forza to a Corsa for flying in Colorado. The lighter wing loading and larger wing area will allow me to slow it down to something reasonable. If the winds are strong or I fly someplace with meaty, thick air, then I can always add ballast.
Look Out Mountain, Green Mountain or any of the table top mesa? Great lift but horrible landing areas in that part of the Rockies. If flying flat land stuff I like to fly at Arvada.

That is why I like the Multiplex foam. Nice stiff gliders that will not shatter on that rock you didn't see. Now that I know the area/fields you fly from I really think you should give the 2.7m glider a long look. With crow you really can fly surprisingly slow over the landing zone, and pick the gopher hole you want to nail!

But each to his own.

If flying FAI with my group you had better be in the 97% to stay out of the middle of the pack.

P.S.
What am I thinking? If you return the 2.7m ship there's another customer return I can possible examine for purchase.:sneaky: Please disregard the above comments. The 2.5m will be more than adequate. All kidding a side I think the 2.7 meter ship is the better ship especially since you have one in your possession. Assuming it meets your quality standards for form, fit and function. I'm pretty confident it will more than meet the function part just fine.

Typhoon MkII TOCCATA - Positives are done.
Toccata has all the good parts of the orginal, but every part of the design and construction (!) is now made much, much better in every way.
Its only taken me a decade to do this, but its good...I promise you it's good.

Those are very nice looking plugs! Is the same factory that is building the models also doing the machine work?

Now this is really exciting. Can't wait to see more progress. After years of flying the Typhoon, now have to get used to the look of no nose slip cover!
Right there Sail - but instantly convertible to Electric - I had to do it.

Cheers,

Doc.

Its a factory that we cooperate with, Red - general CNC work at almost any size. Later when we get our own new CNC mill working, things will get a lot easier (And cheaper!)

We have two CNC machines of our own now, one large, and one small, but both are second hand so we wouldnt ask them to do big accurate work...but they were cheap!

Actually that plug set has not been polished yet, and that particlar resin takes on a really nice buff up.

Just writing up a new wing building process that we have instigated. I talked to Wayne so I'll probably put it up here after its done. Really strong light wings. You just missed this with your Spada tester actually by about a week.:sneaky:

Cheers,

Doc.

I’m pretty sure that is RenShape. Here are a couple molds that I cut and polished here at work. By far the nicest material I have used to make plugs. It’s dimensionally stable (better than Aluminum actually) and the CTE is excellent. The best part is the ease of polish and the durability of the finish once it is polished. These molds have several pulls out of them. Great stuff!!

Yeah, a little one. This one was 13" span, we eventually settled on 32" span. While we could get more planes in the swarm at a smaller size, the payload was limited so it made sense to give up on quantity for quality.
Yeah, for those things to be autonomous and carry a payload of sensors seems like the small one would be pretty difficult to do

Thats the one. I'm unsure of the specific type, but its Renshape.

A bit more spendy but worth it.
