New Single Stick Project

See post #43 as the question of running an MPM on this radio.

It was asked what features would be available and that damn Illegal MPM keeps coming up.

Not sure why this was discussed in this thread.. (MPM) I'll probably clean it out in the future..
I think you're referring to my post #54, but I'm not sure.

If so then I'm sorry, but since this thread is "New Single Stick Project" and post #6 mentions the 3-Axis Gimbal Extender, I figured this would be a good thread to post my questions about the 3-Axis Gimbal Extender. I'm totally confused that you're calling this thread "(MPM)", but it would help me to know where I should have posted.
As for the single stick - We have a ton of people signed up for back in stock alerts for the different versions we have listed on the site.
Sorry again but I can't find where these are listed on your site. Could you please post a link?

Mike

By my read Wayne is asking why the discussion of the MPM in this Single Stick thread. I point to post#43 as the question was asked what tech and features this radio supports. It was there that EDGETX and the MPM was mentioned.

Did my link in thread #55 to the stick extenders not show?

These are found under TX gear.

We are awaiting some parts to arrive and will have a small release of kits. After that we will do a much larger release. I had hoped to have them released by now, but things always take longer these days..

Question on these, since I've never used a single stick radio though I am intrigued.

Why are all the switches on the side of the radio with the stick? Seems like since your right hand is busy with the stick, it'd be better to have the switches more on the left side so your left hand can flip them without taking your hand off the stick?

The left hand goes under the radio and activates the switches and pots on the right hand side of the radio. It sounds odd, but works well.

This is the nature of a "single stick".

If you take a normal radio and add just the 3 axis stick end, it is not considered a "single stick" radio.

Hope that makes sense.

You wrap the transmitter in your left arm like holding a baby, with your right hand holding the stick like a milk bottle (or a pacifier).

Yeah that all makes perfect sense. Thanks! With a three axis stick, you couldn't (easily) hold the transmitter like you normally would with two sticks.

Konrad,
With your keen ability to post excellent photos, could you show a few of how to hold a single stick transmitter?
I am amazed at the number of folks who have never seen one.

Tom

I think there are some earlier in the thread. Don’t know about the “correct way”. Heck, I’m still try to get folks to use a tray radio. Then there is is the thumb and pinch debate!

Here is a video of Alex flying our Aquila at Coyote using a converted R/S, single stick. Radio shown right at the beginning of the vid. It's only a 3 channel so not much to do other then fly. The 3rd channel is on a left side switch under the volt meter (slider) used for spoilers...

I think we need to clarify a full feature 3 axis single stick from the earlier entry level 1, 2, & 3 channel radios of old.

Here I’m holding an 8 channel radio all the primary flight controls are done with the right hand. The left middle finger controls the throttle and throttle trim. The left hand also controls all the features on the right side and on the top. The right hand has easy access to all the face features and switches.

Generally the radio is cradled in the left forearm and against one’s tummy.

This radio is great if one has lost some or most function on one side as the primary flight controls can be manipulated with one hand.

I flew with a friend who always had the same Ace single stick radio. It was very comfortable and intuitive. Using rudder oppositite of aileron was easy (knife edge, inverted coordinated turns). I’ve thought about buying the aloft single stick but I want to hold it first. Need an excuse to go to the Bay Area....

What finishing process due you recommend for the wood panels? Also do you recommend finishing
both the inside and outside?

Tom

@Konrad? Yowser! Those look great. I'm impressed at how little smoke stain I see.
Is there a 3D printed frame that goes along with these wood panels?

Yes, there is a lot of chassis parts that support the wood panels.

We have been using water based poly urethane for our samples. This keeps the wood clean and smooth.

We played with some stain but the plywood does not take stain very well. We do not recommend you use a stain.

We have started with the wood kits as we can do them inhouse. The metal will be up next and will be powder coated. The anodizing is not worth the headache or very high expense IMHO. Open to your suggestions but I am very unhappy with our anodized sample.
