New Single Stick Project

Who are these guys? Don't they do any research like read the sales hype before going on the air? Heck, what are their qualification/back ground? Sounds a lot like the format I saw years ago with Flight Test. There was always a "fool" to drive the discussion way off topic. Heck, they admitted it themselves.

You know I miss the dead tree press. At least there was an editorial staff and the authors where vetted by a knowledgeable editor. I'm thinking of the publication run by Dow Dewy and Bill Winters and Bill Northrop.

Please guys put some effort into your hype before subjecting the public to your "run on meanderings". What a waste of hobby time.

Wayne, I hope this exposer didn't cost you anything!

Didn’t Curtis Youngblood fly a single stick forever? I think his 10x was modified for single stick.
The wood opinion looks 🔥.
Any chance edge tx and a multi protocoll module?
I strive to be different and this looks cool

Sorry, I have not kept pace with Edge TX. If it will run on an X10S, then you are good to go, but I think Edge is for the clone radios.

Just checked and they stated it will run on the X10, so it should also work on the X10S. I would assume. They don't have a lot of detail on their site.

Got to love this quote from their site:

Will the EdgeTX releases be just beta releases for Open TX or will they be tested and stable for everyday use?

The EdgeTX releases will be tested and considered stable for everyday use. However, as these releases will occur at regular intervals, they may not reach the level of maturity that OpenTX main releases achieve. We will try our very best to make sure that the software you install on your TX is working and stable. However, issues could get missed in testing and make it into the release. We hope that this is a rarity.

Thanks Wayne.

That is an ominous warning. That because they plan to have releases at regular intervals they fully expect them to be buggy. What? Because an organization is planning for regular release it should be easy to plan to have QC validate the code prior to release of the code to the consumer. That should mean less issues not more. Now emergency release might justifiably be released prior to a full validation, but not scheduled releases!

Well they do give us warning that most likely it wouldn't be as mature as OpenTX's releases. Whatever issue I may have had with OpenTX at least they gave us a warning that the nightly builds where not tested and likely caused more issue than they solved.

Is it too much to expect tight code? Good tight code needs to be validated prior to release. This is part of what defines good code. I hate to see the poor practices of firms like Boeing trickle down to the cottage industry . Most cottage industry code is written by guys that actually love to write code and would be happy to miss a deadline if it means the code is better more stable and mature.

Is there a MPM that FrSky's X10 supports?

If you are running OpenTX or I guess Edge, then you can use most any MPM I think. But if running Ethos, none. FrSky has not put in any third party support that I am aware of.

MPM are not FCC type certified for use in the USA at the power needed for RC aircraft nore are they FCC certified on all the protocals that they transmit on. Reading the GetFPV web site claims that you need a Ham license to use these. Again what is sold is not in compliance with the requirements needed to use a HAM license. These are illegal to use in the USA period.

As thay are illegal they are crap.

Got it. But I meant the 'TBS' bit. Perhaps we need to start an acronym and nickname library here, to provide clues for the uninitiated.

Yes to the aloft sales.
One is a digital Hall sensor and the other is an analog Hall sensor (I think).

And no it won't fit the gimbals with a pressed in stick. With some care one can machine the stick/gimbal to work. But there is little material to work with.
A little more on applications.

P.S.
Stick extension is a bit of an odd name. Extension as in adding extra functions.

I’m not. Well, I had a student buy one to fly his E-flite trainer with his X20.

I relieved him of this gross error. And thought I’d try to see (understand) why anybody would want this crappy tech.

It appears that to update the FW on the TBS MPM one needs to use a TBS TX.

Not sure why this was discussed in this thread.. (MPM) I'll probably clean it out in the future..

Yes, FrSky offers a number of versions of the Third Axis stick ends, we are trying to get them in now. They sent us some, but not the correct versions for our single stick. :(
They offer them for:
X10S, Express/X12S with the MC12 gimbal
X20S
X9E

The X9E version should be able to be adapted into a Taranis. We will be trying this soon for a 1 handed pilot radio concept we are now working on. Goal here is a very simple radio modification using a stock radio to allow one handed pilots a better solution for their radios. This may well be a simple kit that can be adapted to a range of different brand radios. But that is a topic for a future thread. We will be flying our prototype this weekend in a very basic flight test to see if the basic concept is a good one or not. We have had a lot of requests from one handed pilots for a solution. I'm excited to get this next project going.

As for the single stick - We have a ton of people signed up for back in stock alerts for the different versions we have listed on the site. We have been working on our instructions and making some small changes for better fit. I don't think we have shared a photo of what the wood looks like just yet:

This is the radio going together for our instruction set. We are going with a very detailed build instruction.
