New Single Stick Project

Yes, the top of the stick has a nob you can rotate for the rudder.

I saw this again last week and was impressed at how some of the mods were implemented for some quick and dirty ergonomic testing.

Hey Konrad et-al,

I never had a problem with the box resting on my fore arm using the MicroPro, or others, due to the
design of the rear cover which had a rounded edge at the back. This unit appears to have a sharp
edge where the flat back panel fits the bottom side. This area may require some sort of padding or
Glove fit over it to keep it from "Bitting" into your arm. An alternative may be a leather Band strapped
around your arm, sort of like the ones used by Archers for protection from the bow string.

If you are wearing a Jacket, or coat, it wouldn't matter.

Tom

Some of those leather arm guards would work great! The plastic ones not so much as the box would slide around too much for my liking.

We will be rolling these out on a pre-buy in kit form once our new website goes live (soon). Kit will include the FrSky X10 electronics, instructions, chassis, gimbal, aluminum panels, screws, etc. Probably a one or two night build, no special skills required. We have a few small tweaks for cosmetics and comfort.

Wayne,
Let me know when kit is available as I will commit for one.
Thanks

The aluminum plates will be in raw aluminum, so the customer can treat them how they like. The sample above are black anodized, but we really are not in love with them. Thinking powder coating or hydro dipping would be a better option. Lower cost and better durability. (Our local anodizer didn't do a very good job.)

Wayne,
Sign me up for one! As a pre-buy, can we send a check for ??? Amount?

I noticed that there is no handle, is one planned?

Tom

No plans for a handle. But we could create one if you like.

Yes, we have debated carbon plates. It can be done. Mostly just worried about heat build up with carbon, but the front carbon could be pretty thin as it does have a plastic backer behind the front plate. The rear is going to become plastic. This will allow us to put a radius on the sides for vastly better ergonomics/comfort.

Waiting for some final prices, and also waiting for the new wedsite to go live before we take any pre-pays. Thanks guys!!

So we have put some pricing up on the website.

We will offer it with or without the electronics, and with black powder coated aluminum panels, or laser cut wood panels. The wood really gives a cool look, and you can paint or stain them however you would like.

Here are some early pics of the wood panels. This is the raw wood.

We can do the entire radio in PETG if someone wanted that. Our early prototypes were all printed. Left inside a black car with windows rolled up, etc. No issues.

@Wayne FYI I’m unable to select various options for the single stick radio on an iPhone, iOS 15.5, Safari browser. The menu pops open but I cannot click any of them items in the drop down to actually select them.

Oh, I see. If I try accessing on a desktop browser, the drop down shows the three other options but they are all grayed out. But the mobile website doesn't have that differentiation.

That podcast site gives a server error..

Throttle trim is next to the power switch. We would have liked to place it near the throttle or the gimbal, but no space! We also figure the only time you need throttle trim is to cut an IC engine, and you typically do that on the ground.

Battery door - Yep, it is gone. But 4 screws gives you pretty quick access. The battery should last many hours. Upgraded battery even longer. I'd have to check, but I think we could upgrade it to something like 7,000 mah, but it will throw off the radio balance. Here is an older photo showing the layout inside the radio. You will see we have moved the battery from the stock location. We did this for a couple of reasons. Radio deepth is reduced and better balance for the single stick layout.

You can see how tight we are for the hall effect throttle sensor and the main gimbal body. Moving the throttle lower causes a conflict of magnetic forces for the hall effects. (This is an older photo, some things have be fine tuned since.)
