New Frsky User Needs Help

I purchased an FrSky X12S Hours TX at an estate sale. The firmware was 1.2.25 and I tried to use it as the master TX with my grandson's new Twin XLite as the student's. I could see that the two were connected, but the momentary toggle switch that I selected did not transfer control to the student's TX. This led me to believe that I needed to upgrade the firmware (X12S_NEU_1607_0314_frtx.bin), so I used the SD card to do that. I followed the PDF that was in the downloads folder and it appeared to upgrade both the FrOs and the RF deck. After the two were upgraded. When I powered the TX back on, the LED turned blue momentarily and then solid red for a few seconds, then turned off. After studying some of the blogs, it seems to me that the bootloader may be corrupted. However, I tried to get to that by pushing the two trims inward at power on and nothing happened. Can someone please tell me how I might recover from this mistake.

Thank you,

Randy Adams

It shouldn't be too hard to fix your X12S. Normally OpenTX or EdgeTX is flashed with the radio off, then the flashing application (can be OpenTX Companion or EdgeTX Buddy website) talks directly to the STM32 chip inside the radio and it doesn't need the FrOS/OpenTX/EdgeTX bootloader to exist. If the radio is not recognized while being off it might be required to install ImpulseRC Driver Fixer or Zadig on your computer if it's a Windows computer.
You could also lookup a video about unbricking the X12S and if that can't be found look for X10.
