new Archer Plus GR8 RX won't bind with new X20RS TX.

I have a new X20RS- firmware updated to Ethos 1.6.2. FCC. I'm trying to bind to a new Archer Plus GR8 RX. When I power up the RX with the F/S button pressed, light on RX stays solid red. When I click "register" in TX, shows "waiting for receiver"- but never shows up. Under "Owner registration ID" in the RF screen, I've put "Kips RC"- I've also tried with the original "RRtrrtrr". I have no SD card in the radio. I made a folder on the TX for "FIRMWARE UPDATES" and put the latest RX firmware (3.0.1) on it. I tried to load that firmware to the RX by connecting it to the S.Port socket on the TX with a male-to-male servo wire- no luck. I've attached some TX screenshots and the RX instruction PDF.

I can't see what I'm missing.

UPDATE: there is no RSSI shown on TX screen. The photos are deceptive- there's zero out of four bars. And RSSI in main model window is zero, ----.

The instructions for upgrading the Archer Plus GR8 clearly states if you upgrade the receive firmware to 3.01 you must also upgrade the TX RF firmware to 3.0 as well. So Ethos firmware V1.6.2 is for the radio and Transmitter RF V3.0 is for the transmitter RF module. What does ("I've put "Kips RC"- I've also tried with the original "RRtrrtrr". I have no SD card in the radio)" mean.

Thanks for your response.

I believe I have everything updated (see attached). I updated the GR8 again to 3.0.1 by wire. When powering on the RX with the button pushed, RX lamp is solid red. And after pushing "register" on the TX, the "waiting for receiver" screen appears- but the RX does not show up.

The first line in the model's RF screen on the TX is "Owner registration ID". At one point, I edited that to "Kips RC"- it was originally "TRtqyyyx". Also shows up in the "waiting for receiver" screen. I thought it was a way of personalizing my radio gear. I don't really know what this "ID" is all about. Reverted back to original, but no help. I did notice that sometimes, the "waiting for receiver" screen would show the ID new name- while the first line in the RF window would show the original name- or visa versa.

I've also tried to bind to two older FrSky X8R RXs after updating their firmware- no luck. Same thing: soid red lamp on the RX.

OK. Don't fool with the registration ID. To register press and hold the RX button till you feel the button click. Hold it depressed and power up the receiver, wait a couple of seconds and release the button, you should see solid red and orange LEDS. Now on the TX go to RF menu select ACCESS and model number that is not already used, keep the receiver about 1 meter away from the TX, then click register, you should immediately see it has Identified your receiver then proceed following the prompts to complete this process. The bind process for X8R is the same except you need to select ACCST protocols, no registration required for these older receivers, just go directly to bind.

Thanks for reply!

That's pretty much what I've been doing. I did try moving the TX away this time- but no improvement.

I live near the FrSky warranty center. I will try to see if they can help tomorrow.

It sounds like you are not getting the receiver in bind mode. The bind button on the receiver can be finicky. If you are only getting a solid red LED on the receiver then the button isn’t being pressed on power up.

Fortunately, FrSky headquarters is not too far from me. They were kind enough to take a look at it. There was an issue with the TX: I didn't get the details. I will try to get the details and post the solution to this thread. Working well now- and I've decided to run a TW GR8 receiver- it is also communicating well. I think I would get a TD receiver- but cannot fit a TD receiver 900 MHz antenna in the small fuse of my F5J glider.

That tiny button on the rx can be tricky. The first one I bought never really had a click when pushed. Also trying to unplug or plug in battery while holding button is hard. Much easier once I got this simple cheap switch.
