Neck Strap Mounting On Taranis. Safety Tip.

I have had only one issue with my Taranis, this happened about two years ago.

I fly with the Neck strap the Taranis comes with as I don't always have a clean surface to put the TX down on and sometimes with the numerous flys we have here in OZ, two hands are needed to swat them away.

I was hooking the tow line to my glider during a comp when, I felt something hit my foot, not thinking anything about it I reached down to take hold of the transmitter ready for launch, and, could not find it, looking down I found it was my transmitter that bounced of my foot not someone bumping me. The neck strap mount had pulled out of the transmitter case. Upon inspection I found that the ring was only held in place with a nut only, no washer, no distribution of the load across a larger area.

When the new transmitter case arrived, on inspection I found I could put a washer under the nut, still not confident a washer was enough I turned up a larger alloy washer with a tapered edge to fit into the available space, spreading the load from approximately 25 square MM to around 100 square MM, giving me peace of mind when the TX is just hanging on the odd occasions I need both hands for something else.

I still love my Taranis, and , will not change it for any other radio.

If you use a neck strap, have a look now and again around the strap ring where it exits the case, if you see cracks in the case, be wary, the ring and the transmitter might part company.
