Multi-Purpose Receiver from 30 yrs ago +-

In days of yore, I had a Futaba Receiver (MCR (4A maybe).
It had Battery leads, Motor leads, an on/off Switch and a Motor Arming Switch . It was used in a two meter electric assisted Sailplane. See attachment below. Very simple and handy. Do any Receiver manufacturers today make such a thing ? I have a Futaba T6L Transmitter and a DX6e Spectrum Transmitter (Long story). Prefer for it to be compatable w/ the Futaba . Can use the DX6e if necessary..

I’m trying to ease back into the Hobby again. Whew ! What a change. Back then, Brushless motors we’re just a rumor.
I’ve got a Brushed ‘05 Cobaltgeared ’ motor. I want to keep it simple and get some experience with electric propulsion before I build a 100” electric assisted sailplane. Have Brushless motors completely replaced Brushed motors, so there is no market for Brushed Equipment ?

Welcome back to the hobby. A lot has changed in radios and motors.

You can still get some of the brushed motors, but they have many reasons to avoid them. They take up more space, they weigh more, and most importantly, they produce less power. I could continue about reliability of the brushes, fixed timing and limited choices of power specs.

Today brushless motors are plentiful and the sizes you will need for a 100" plane will be readily available for very fair prices with a wide range of performance to match whatever you would like them to do. So many options it can be baffling for folks to pick the correct setup.

You will not find many receivers that include the motor control as their are too many options for motors and how people want to drive them for that to be practical except for very small airframes. (These small airframes probably weigh less than just the receiver you are sharing.)

This can get to be a wild discussion, but for now I'd suggest you stick with a 3 or 4 cell lipo powered brushless setup. These are very affordable and can be very light for something like a 100" sailplane. The entire power package (motor, esc and battery) will probably weigh less than just the old 05 Cobalt geared motor and probably cost less than you originally paid for that motor back in the day and the volume of space needed for the power package will only be a bit more than the old brushed motor alone.

For radio gear, I am biased as we sell it here at Aloft, but I highly recommend the FrSky gear. something like the X14 is a great radio that is still pretty easy to program. But you can also stick with your Futaba radio, you should be able to source some used receivers for it on RC Groups classifieds.

Hope this helps some. I'm sure you will have questions, don't hesitate to ask. Also, when it is time to pick a power system, Jarron here loves finding the right setups for folks. :)

Thanks for your Response and Recommendations. I came to Aloft thru some customers that seem to hold ya”ll in high regard.

Here is the Question that was posted on another Forum:

“Who are your favorite Vendors ?”
I’ve been burned recently with false advertising and extremely poorly run businesses. Just want to buy from honest professional vendors. One stop shopping is a plus as well as pleasant friendly employees.

If there is such a combination of all the above.

Who is/are your favorite Vendor(s) for my interest.

Aloft seemed to have garnered quite a few recommendations. Think I’ll give ya’ll a go, from your customers recommendations and your response. You’re off to a good start.

Thanks guys!

We have a very simple rule for business; treat our customers the way we expect to be treated when we are customers. Life is too short for anything less. I try to do this in all interactions in life, but I must admit, I find this challenging when driving or listening to politicians. :(
