motor mount for a P32 gearbox

austin

New User
Hello, I am building up an Ion Pro NG. It came with a 2mm thick 38mm motor mount. The problem is the gearbox, a P32 gearbox which has mounting holes at 27mm vs the 25mm of the mount the airframe kit came with.

Can I widen the mount's holes to fit the gearbox mounts or would that be risky? It will be over 1kw of power.
I've looked for motor mounts but cannot find a 38mm with 27mm mounting holes, so here I am.

What should I do here?

I attached pics of what I am working with.

Thanks!

You can probably just egg out the holes, should be right at 1mm per hole.

If you like we can make up a custom motor mount for you. See this page:

I'd probably take the thickness up to around 3mm. Should work a treat. I dare say might be better than the supplied motor mount as we have a lot more glue area on the fuselage. We will need to inner and outer diameter of your fuselage.

@Wayne You have all kinds of fascinating / useful things tucked away in your site. I don't know to search for them, so I don't come across them... always a little surprise around every corner.

Just ask.. LOL We tend to focus on some of the problem areas. Hard to find bits and bobs.

We could probably print this for you If you want to get fancy, you can contact PNC on RCGroups, he machines really nice mounts from Aluminum. They slip in from the front and have a lip that butts up against the front of your nose, so there is no hassle getting it straight. He made me a mount for the same gearbox when I started my hotliner project..
