Mini Wanderer

We got a start on the second prototype. This is 1 hours of work with 2 people:

We probably need to invest a couple of hours of fine tuning to adjust some of the gapping before production. But no issues on the build.

We must be dedicated.. Jarron and I are at the office on a Saturday working on this project (and some others).
Jarron has been working on the wings:

I've been working on the rest:

Think the fuselage and tail are ready for covering.

The fuselage goes together really fast and is plenty strong. While sanding I had no concerns with hurting it. Very satisfying. When I build my next one I think I will sneak in some triangle stock so I can round her off more aggressively. I think there is room for that. I got a little twist into the tail section, I'm not a great builder. Red shared some tricks to avoid this in the future. I cheated and did some creative sanding. Should be fine. That is what I get for rushing along.

Jarron just finished sanding the right side panels, ready to be glued together. Still need to build the other side. Looking really good.

This is a lot of fun. My first ever plane was a Wanderer I built with my Dad. This is bringing back so many great memories of that first build. I remember being worried about sanding the nose, hatch and wing tips on that first one, and so relieved when they came out well. I had never sanded anything well at that point in my life.

OK- I'll go slap some filler on the fuselage and do a final sanding before jumping into the covering.

How long has it been since you guys (or any modeler) has had a better Saturday morning than that?
Love this cool little plane.

Well, the pretty black and red plane will probably never fly. The good news is the final model is vastly superior. Red did a great job with the revisions and a little fine tuning here at Aloft and I think we have a really sweet model for you all. We built a new fuselage in about 20 minutes last night. I imagine someone could probably build one in 10 minutes if they wanted to race it through. (But why would you want to do that? It is a fun build!)

Wing looks to be just as simple. The new airfoil looks sweet and should perform even better than the prototype.

Jarron found a nice option for a brushed motor and folding prop setup for us to test out.

Just gets better and better!

The pretty plane - We have upgraded the design a fair amount, and not shown the black fuselage looks like a twisted drill bit as it was not yet a tabbed design and I built it in my hands instead of on a build table. We will show you a before and after comparison of the two a bit later.

Here is a super secret look at the new landing gear. Designed for flying in the Pacific Northwest.
