I think we're saying almost the same. If I load Mike's program and his instructions I can (and did) use it as a learning tool that is unavailable in the manual and MAY be or may be not dug out of utubes. You come from some system that looks like you're a computer programer ! Way beyond some of use trying to step in. Johm

Maybe? I want to be clear, I loath programing. And I hate inadequately documented programs! I have no formal training in computer programing.

With that out of the way. I was trying to show that while most radio are based on the master slave achitecture (I think this is because early radios used analog op-amp for mixer). The object based mixer output architecture has been around since the late 80’s. This is the fundimental difference between Spektrum, JR and Airtonics. The Master/Slave has a primary function dictate some action to a subordinate function. With object based mixers programs such as OpenTX you deside what inputs you want an output to respond to. I like to think of this mixer as a box where all the controls you want to effect a servo go in. You then address what each function does and then output the result to the servo or another mixer. Once that idea clicks you are golden as to how OpenTX works, and as I think the higher levels of Ethos works.

All of Mike’s templets have been well documented making it “easier” for anybody to use them. His documentation is for his templets and should not be thought as a document for using OpenTX or Ethos. If you can pull out the what, why and how of using OpenTX or Ethos from his documentation then you are way ahead of the game.

I’m so happy you are at this level of understanding, as I recall that just 3 weeks ago you were ready to dump Ethos and go back to Spektrum.

Now again full disclosure:
I break out into a cold sweet if I have to program a plane with more than 4 function on my Spektrum DX9. It is just so combersome and uterly frustration dealing with the limitations imposses by the master slave arcitecture when trying to get more advanced functionality out of the radio. It is obviously possible, but it never is as clean and functional as what I get with Mike’s templets for OpenTX and I assume Ethos.

If you're getting a volantec phoenix 2.4 meter, I have one of those. If I were to do it again, I would buy the 2.0 meter version. I paid $151.00 with free shipping for the receiver ready version. It flew just fine until the plastic prop yoke failed whicch resulted in a thrown prop which ripped the nose off the fuselage. Very difficult to repair that blow molded plastic fuselage

Sadly an often repeated story of spinner failures.
If you have a plane that you like that has a plastic folding prop spinner (all parts plastic) it would be a good idea to replace that spinner ASAP. Also, if you are flying with Chinese folding props, I recommend replacing those if you are drawing anything over about 400 watts of power, they have a wonderful feature of throwing blades at higher power values and this will also kill your plane with the motor rips out. Really sad..

On many ARFs, simply changing the prop and spinner will result in better flights. Many of these are SO cheap and out of balance or worse, out of round or track that simple replacement really extends the life of the motor and the plane thanks to reduced vibration.

Have you read the manual that came with the template? If not, start there.

Yes, read the manual for that one. If you are going to use a templated program from somewhere, they almost always have detailed instructions that must be followed. I would even suggest you print them out and keep them with your radio so you can adjust things at the flying field. It is a huge aid!! HUGE. These templates usually have very complex programming as they are trying to make them for a wide range of aircraft, so they use a lot of VARs to dial in the settings for a given model. Knowing what to adjust is critical to your sanity, and that is what the instructions are all about.

I highly recommend you start off by making a copy of the original unmodified template so should things go wrong, you can make a fresh copy and start over.

All morning I red the manual, for some reason or another I don't see or understand the activation of the program to my Ultima, on Sherman knight and spectrum it was 123. On X20 it is not.i see all the folders but don't understand how to activate it in existing model.

Do not start off with Shellim's template.
Instead program a more basic plane using the Ethos manual as a guide. Get to know the radio and understand how it works before jumping into the deep end. You need to learn how to swim before you can attempt to surf the big waves.

These templates are made by a master programmer. I am pretty darn good with OpenTX and Ethos, but when I look at these templates, they are a struggle to understand without their manual. I NEVER suggest a brand new user downloads these until they have some time with the radios.

Heck, once you have a decent understanding of Ethos, these templates will still require you to follow the setup instructions as they are not programmed the same way you would have done your previous models.

You need to learn the radio first.

Heck, program the plane, but do it normally, not using someone else's programming. It will be a great way for you to learn the system. Start off by making a new model and follow the New Model Wizard. It will get the basics, then it is just fine tuning from there.

I have manually programmed the plane, but still have some issues like I can't get my flaps travel equity I messed with weight and all I could see but no luck so far I will do it many times till I understand it.

That indicates that you haven’t calibrated the flap servo curves properly. Mike does say to redo the curves if that happens. I too had much the same issue and solved it by recalibrating the TX sticks. Again Mike say to do this before doing any other programming
