Micro Gentle Lady

Hey Y'all,

Thought i'd post up a short thread on this small glider. I bought this from the designer on RCG. His company is called Alien Technologies. He's done a few of these micro "classic" gliders, the wanderer, windfree, gentle lady, aquila, sin bad and a few others.

I bought this one and the sin bad, i sold the sin bad kit to Konrad but i kept this one.

I started building this kit and did frame up last December in a hotel room isolating after coming home for a long trip over seas. I covered most of it in January when we had a power outtage and i needed something todo for an afternoon. Then it sat for 9 months till i decided to finish it. The model was really simple to build and is designed to use a UMX brick but one could use other small servos no problem. I covered it in tissue. The white is domestic and the yellow is Esaki. The markings were made on my wife Cricut maker using the pen to draw them on. You can see the bleeding a little bit, this was from the water when trying to shrink the tissue. I had tried to seal the ink using lacquer which helped but wasn't perfect. I sealed all the tissue with spray lacquer. I need to finalize the CG but i'm hoping to do some test flights this week. If you have a brick laying around and want a simple fun project this is a good candidate. I'll post up more pictures when i've flown her.

The model is 30" ws and 45 grams RTF. I decided to not build the power pod. I'll just make a small up start or throw her off Kite Hill.

@Red is Alien tech. Which is funny when you realize his day job is NASA :)
He had a bunch of them at Sunset last year. They were super impressive in person.

Yeah, they fly great! Think Red was probably at the Reno Races recently, been watching his build on ol' Red on Youtube also. Too many fun projects.

That is really cool. I have a special respect for Balsa builders as I cannot build with balsa. I have never built a balsa model other than a chuck glider 30 years ago.

Thanks MPP. Yeah, i don't have much patience or skill with other materials. I've built a few foam kits but it's never been my thing.

I flew the Micro Gentle Lady at Kite hill this weekend. She flies well. Like a lot of micro gliders the window between enough lift and too much wind is pretty small. But she flew well. I had to add more nose weight than I expected. I think i'll drill the nose out and add lead to it. My dad took some video i'll try to get it posted up.

One cool thing at kite hill was a guy had built the micro Wanderer from Red and liked it but wanted a little bigger so he blew up the micro plans to 36" wing span. It flew well.

I'll post up the video when i can.

regards,

Hank

I keep trying to source Tungsten for the shop (We used to have it) but it seems they don't want to sell the stuff these days. LOL

Think you may find that tungsten powder and putty may have no density advantage over lead. Think Tungsten powder is about the same mass as lead, do not know about the putty, but probably about the same also. Typically we are buying an alloy form of tungsten as it is easier to work with, this comes with a price tag, the mass will be reduced.

Yeah I looked at McMaster too. They have tungsten in 1/16 dia to 1" but it's not cheap. 5 3/32 balls cost like 9 bucks. What i need to do is weigh all the modeling clay i added to the model then start seeing how much lead that would be. Cutting the nose off and adding weight inside it would be a good place to start.

Check out the low melt alloys, they are great for adding lead to a model.

One of those bars should do a good number of gliders. Much safer than melting lead.

I like that, I can actually mold shaped ballast for my 3M.
