Micro Gentle Lady - Max Wind To Fly / Ballast

Do you guys that have been flying the Micro GL have a recommendation for a maximum wind speed to fly in? Probably especially slopes. My brother reports they have been having "Epic" flying conditions at Bluff Park, Long Beach, CA. That's generally SE-S-SW winds and probably up to 10-15 MPH. I'm 10 MPH there now.

Has anybody ballasted a Micro GL? Looks like it would fairly easy to add a little ballast at C.G. in the fuse.

John

I have not tried any ballast yet. I did fly mine in 10 mph yesterday here at Sunset. I’d say that’s about the fun limit. Any more than that and it gets tossed around easily. Bluff Park has very smooth lift, you’ll love it there.

I've been flying periodically there the last couple years. I have a Dream Flight Weasel and an antique foam wing that lives at moms house, for when I visit. 😁

Started out flying what is now called 3 Towers, back in the 70's.

I agree on wind speeds. I have flown when it is dead calm at ground level but a 100ft up it gets bounced around pretty good. Really can't expect anything different for a sub 2oz glider though. I agree would be easy tom add some weight right at CG.

Not sure what the wind speed was, but it seems to have a pretty wide range its happy with. When it got "too windy" i just moved way back up the hill into the pilot area.

I've been getting some nice flights with the Micro GL at Long Beach Bluff Park.

Thanks to my brother for shooting video - even if it's in iphone mode. 😆

Winds were SSW, 6-10MPH. Gets a little bumpy at times. FUN TO FLY!

I miss that slope. So many great flying days there.

Have your brother transfer the videos to you rather then text them, should be much higher quality that way.

Er, uh, well. Those were uploaded directly from my phone to YouTube and linked. Did you think they were they low quality??? I can choose up to 1080P when viewing .....

My bad - working good now. They were really poor earlier. Usually youtube videos will play at a high res for me, but I did have to select a higher quality just now.

Ahh, computers!

Had some stout initial winds (10-12 MPH with some minor gusts?) at Bluff Park yesterday and flew the Micro GL with ballast. Added .5 oz just behind my servos, at C.G. and it flew very nicely. Winds died down a bit and the ballast came back out. My brother flew his Feather DLG after the winds dropped, which weighs a few grams less than the GL and I was surprised to see it out climbing the GL in mild winds. It DOES have a lot less drag with its pod/boom fuse;113 Sq. In wing area . . . what is the wing area of the GL?

Getting lots of interest from local slopers, so am passing along the Aloft website and information on servos, receivers, batteries, etc.

Cheers!

John

Great to hear! There is something magical about a shrunken down floater. I have always loved them.
