Mefisto build (BLEJZYK)

Thanks for the tip! I'll consider buying the glider nose indeed, or I have to get creative with some balsa and glass fibre.
The trick with the protruding elevators has worked: instead of shortening the fixed stab I've extended the elevators a little
toward the centre. I've yet to figure out how to safely (and strongly) attach the control horns, I'll probably glass the ends of
the elevators for some strength.

That’s what I did. With your need to remove the V-tail, so durability here is critical.

Finally making some progress on mine...

Didn't like the two piece wing setup so I decided to go with a one piece on this build. Joined them today. Came out smooth and glossy. I just put a piece of DLG repair cloth over the provided glass cloth, cut a piece of Mylar to cover it, Added some weight and then waited... Still have to tidy up the blue tape.

Very nice - I had used some finishing resin and got a similar glossy finish - it's looking good!

I also recommend the 1 piece for this plane. Easier to build, a pair of bolts will fit better than 4 bolts, and will have a stronger wing joint. So many wins!

Definitely a good idea to do the one-piece wing if you can. I cannot (transportability, need to make as small a box as possible)
but the lining up of the bolts is a small nightmare.

Update with picture here:

The demountable stabilizer worked out great, I think that's going to work fine. Still have to do the
control horns and clevises. I'm forming the nose out of foam and filler now, plan to glass it over
and remove the foam for a hollow nose that I can fill with lead.

That looks fantastic! I think the flipper extension will add some stiffness with the cross wood grain effect.

I assume you will be using nylon bolts on the slope.

Again very well done.

I had an extra set of tail fins, so I'm trying the seal a Meal bagging method. Here's the first one. I flew blemishes, but over all not bad. The next one will be better.

Mine is done and has had it's maiden today on the (RES) histart line. Flies great! Very happy.
The de-mountable tail works well, so far the controls (steel bent into a firm L and inserted into control horn) holds up
and is reasonably easy to remove and install.

I seriously dislike the 4 screws for the wing mount without any alignment, so I may still add a small alignment pin.
But it works, once assembled it's all fine.

Ballast tube installed, but ballast not made yet so some work still to be done. I launched it straight into a thermal
today, and it does really very well, even in a firm wind (3-4 Bft).

(In the end it got 0 degrees of dihedral by accident, but it doesn't seem to harm at all. The nose is the original motor-nose with a foam nosecone glassed
over, fillered primered and painted. Quite happy with the result. It flies on a 2S lipo 1500 mah in the nose with some additional lead.)

Looks great!

0 degrees, as in flat across the top of the wings? (I think mine is something like that). Or 0 degrees as in flat along the bottom (anhedral, as the wings get thinner at the tips)?

Somewhere in between I think. not quite flat bottom but definitely less than flat top.
Anyway, as I mentioned it flies fine and I don't think it will be noticed afterward anymore :)
Now wait for the first south-westerly 4Bft or more and try it on the local dike.

Hello all,
I'm new here.
Just want to thank Aloft, great service and seem like great people!
I have been flying just about my whole life, but haven't flown slope since 2009. (well I did fly last week) I have flown just about everything from 3D power planes, helis, 3D quad-copters etc.. Anyhow, I did just finish my Mefisto. My spin was my first build in years, shes a tank, but fly's well. Way over did everything from paint, glass etc.
The Mefisto is much lighter by my standards.
I hope to fly her today down at Sunset, but waiting on the wind. Heres a few pics and I'm sure I'll bump into some of you down at Sunset, or up at Waddell Creek..

Till then, heres a few pics...

P.S. bottom colors are for my Mom, huge Giants fan, lol and as you can see from my avatar and the top side I'm a neon fan (yes that is me in an O'Neill 2 page ad)

She should fly as good as she looks. I love mine! Should be in the sweet spot for Sunset.

I heard rumor that they closed Waddell Creek?? (I have to ask, are you into Hang Gliders? They usually call this site Waddel. I guess the surfers use that name too..)

Thank you Wayne.
I havent drove up there recently "Waddell Creek" and haven't heard anything about it being closed.

I was a pro surfer, hence the name waddell reefs, parking lot, county line, etc. I use.. The reefs are to the left from the flying spot/trail down to beach.

I always have been confused when people said they flew at Davenport.. hehe..

🙃
