Note* For beginners - Start with a CG @76mm
A CG of 79.5mm is recommended but can be moved further back to make the "Magnus" more lively. I have flown @ 90mm excellent for low wind aerobatics but tucks at high speed, be careful.

Thanks for the set up sheet ? It will come in very handy for the maiden. Are you mixing flaps with ailerons to get full span ailerons? Is that why the flap travel is listed under the aileron section of the chart?

I started building today as I just recieved all my stuff from Aloft. I decided to write out some “instructions“ or notes for me to follow so I don’t get wrapped up in the moment and do something out of order. Well those notes turned into instructions, then into a draft for my RC groups build thread. Then I realized I had written so much (almost 3k words), I might as well just go into every detail just for the hell of it. I kind of enjoy writing (when it’s not for school. ?)

So now I’ve ended up with a draft for a build manual with photos and all. I‘ll post a teaser of what I have so far. I hope to have this all done by end of next week. I’ll create the RC groups thread in “forum” format and I’ll include the pdf manual I’m working on.

I know it sounds overkill for such a simple build, but one person on Facebook has already asked for a detailed build as this will be one of his firsts... so I figured why not. (Plus I’m bored as hell during this shelter in place.) I remember when I got my passport kit from Argentina, there wasn‘t much info in one place on it and the info I found, wasn’t super detailed. Just here’s “the crate” “here’s 10 build photos” and “here’s your f3a pattern plane flying F11 or whatever sequence Chip Hyde was flying at the time to promote it.

Does FB actually have any archival characteristic? That is can one search and find "useful" stuff like instructions and other technical stuff?

I know I stay away from FB for security and ethical reasons. That is to say I don't use FB and really don't know it is evolving. Is it actually worth spending time writing up technical stuff on that platform?

Let me know when you finish them! I‘m still kind of leary on how to do the layout for the aileron and flap linkage slots. I saw your photos but cutting through the trailing edge skin scares me if I screw it up ? Cant add back fiberglass ?

Aside from someone posting an album containing pictures... I’m not sure their is a good way to search topics for things like this.

Maybe @Jonathan Wells would like to start a “Magnus Owners and Builders” group on Facebook?... that way someone interested in this model could find stuff more easily on that platform. I’d join and post if there was a group. Besides that, I think RC Groups, Aloft, RC Universe, Flying Giants are all better for archiving model information.

I am not a fan of Facebook for ANYTHING archival. It is a wasteland for that. Forums work much better for this, almost like they were designed for it.

We will have links to this thread from the product page. We are doing this more and more for our products. Works very well.

I've tried to do that with my reviews. The reviews don't hyper link to the forum post.

Also you might want to have a set of rules for "Offical Product" thread. This might be to keep the posts on topic. Forum are notorious for getting off topic.

4 hours in on the build today and managed to prep 1 flap and 1 aileron servo for each wing along with prepping the stab for gluing. Man it is tight even with the X08 servos. Had to modify the servo tray, modify the servo arm, and whittle the clevis down. All to be able to get the proper geometry and full servo travel for the top mounted control horns. I even called @Diceman to pick his brain a little. I’m not to fond of how much material I had to remove from the clevis‘s and the servo arm. Needless to say, the second wing will go much faster now that I finally figured what works. ?

I feel bad for Jeremy trying to shoehorn those big x10 servos into the wing. I’m curious to see how he makes it all work.

Yep, looks about right.. Makes the IDS tempting when there is that much grinding involved.

Ditch the clevis at the servo and use a 90 deg bend.

Did this batch come with the new bubble servo covers?

I got the bump covers... they fit with the inner most hole. I tried second hole out on the arm for the flap servo but they hit.
