KST HS08

Looks the same to me for the single cell (3.8V), 0.21 sec/60. I got these off the box. I still don't see any rating for 8.4v (Dual lipo).

Yep, and the XO-8 has a rating at 8.4V. But note that KST does approve the HSO8 to 8.4V just that we don't see any performance spec's for 8.4V.

I thought that even at 4.8V that the cmos trigger points would work with TTL. It's been many moons since I did any of this stuff!

Some of the old stuff didn’t use TTL.
just a timer driven by the pot compared to the input pulse width which drove the motor whichever way needed to make the difference vanish.

I think that was at the servo amp level. But the RX signal was PWM/TTL. Here with a modern servo I'd have thought that cmos would be a bit more noise tolerant.

Rated voltage is up to 8.4V
No data for under load conditions?
Be aware of killing the servo nor it must be used with a voltage regulator or maybe LiFe or Nimh/Nicd

I like the weight to power ratio, the speed is not astonishing me

Yep. Are your posted spec's different than the spec's I posted?

Speed and power have been improved over all voltage ranges other than 3.8V. At 3.8V there is a speed hit. But let's be honest here, we (I'm) not likely to use the HSO8 in a single cell application. I still think the XO-8 is better for the single cell.

With KST's reputation I have no issue with using these at 8.4 Volts. This voltage is approved by KST.

Like you and other, I wonder why we don't see any performance spec's at 8.4V.

Hmm, I wish KST would share these nice documents with me. I'll have to bug them a bit.

Even though we are one of the few shops that buys direct, we hardly ever find out about new items from them or are given specs, etc. That is what happens when you deal with the president of the company. That and KST is a funny company, they prefer not to mess about with sales and marketing, so they outsource all of that. I have managed to get our foot in the door where we deal direct as we had issues with the third parties. KST rather focus on the product production and development.

Specs are available on their web.

I have some 2 cell 2m gliders that have large batteries (5000mAh). As these are digital servos there is a lot of pulsed energy being used just holding the control surfaces at neutral, particularly at speed.
So my set up can keep the Vss at 8.4v (fully charged 2 cell lipo) for a lot longer than one might think.

Ok, at 120 amp draw there is some voltage suppression. But this only lasts for about 9 seconds. Then the battery voltage bounces back when the motor is shut down.

But the question still remains why didn't KST issue spec's for 8.4v as the servo is rated to operate at 8.4V.
