>>IMPORTANT<< / FrSky RF Version 3.0.1

Henny is correct. Futaba has been rather notorious for never fixing their bugs. Only recently has Spektrum seemed interested in fixing their bugs. (You used to have to send in your radios for repair when it was a firmware issue, is this still the case?)

Not sure either has ever added new features to an existing radio. Anyone know??

I think we have become very accustomed to getting these things from FrSky for free as part of our ownership. Not a bad deal.

hello. i updated my frsky x20s to ethos 1.6.1 following the advice on the frsky website. i also updated the rf module to 3.0.1 . now the previously bound r9mm receivers operate ok as far as i can tell. when i try to bind a new reciever it sorta binds at least the receiver says it has registered and bound but the rf signal drops out about every 2 or 3 seconds rssi never gets above 50 or so and the VFR is at maybe 3%. help! should i reflash the previous RF firmware (2.2.7) or what. i have tried with several 9rmm and r9mm-ota receivers now before i read your post. are the receivers ruined??
edit: i updated to ethos 1.6.0 not 1.6.1

an update. i reloaded the 2.2.7 rf firmware and i an still getting the same results....very poor intermittent receiver reception. i reloaded the 1.5.19 ethos firmware and had no change, same results. when i reloaded the older firmware (ethos) some of my models disappeared. they are on the s/d card but the tx is not seeing them all. i'm creating more problems as i go along...lol. can you help? should i reset the tx to the factory settings and start over???

No don,t do that. A factory reset won,t in anyway increase TX range. The radio firmware version 1.6.1 is still in beta, 1.6.0 is the latest you should be using. I am running RF firmware 3.0.1 in my X20S without issues.

Tell us more about your receiver and how it's mounted in your plane. How have you located the antennas and are they near any objects like batteries servos etc. There is a lot of discussion on antenna location, and this is very important. I mount my antennas one either side of the fuse and I locate them horizontaly in a piece of heat shrink tube or a drinking straw works just as well. Is your receiver inside a carbon fiber model. What receiver type are you using and what firmware version does it have. See my antenna layout image. Are the antennas in good condition are the ends of the antennas in tact..

the receiver is an r9mm, frsky, and it is on the test bench. i loaded ethos 1.6.0 into the tx and 3.0.1 in the rf module. i am still not able to bind a new receiver to the tx. the rx appears to bind but then the reception is very poor and constantly beeps telemetry lost. the tx gets the signal then it drops and repeats. any ideas??

The R9MM is quite old and I don't think it supports RF firmware v3.0.1. Nor does it support ACCESS OS. It is the original 900meg recievers. I would move to an ACCESS 2.4g reciever like the ARCHER PLUS R6 or GR6 if you want alitiude read outs.

actually the r9mm have been working great on acess until this upgrade. i am using them on about 8 aircraft. everything was fine until i upgraded to 1.6.0 and 3.0.1 i updated both at the same time so i don't know which is causing the problem. i have tried rolling them both back and yet i still get the same results.

If you bricked a receiver using OTA, you should be able to fix it if you do the update via the wire harness. At least that seems to be the case for most.

I tried installing the 3.0.1 on a TD R18. It installed and bound but the blue light was off, no telemetry and not able to access options in the RF menu.

Is this firmware is FUBAR?

We understand Frsky is close to releasing an update to fix the many bugs. Usually this will be a sound release at this point. I hear a number of other dealers asking why in the world are they keeping 3.0.1 available. (Funny thing is we got heat when I posted this thread.)

I see the new 3.0.2 is out. Is this version working correctly?

I was a bit confused by upgrade steps:

Step1. Please ensure the ETHOS radio is flashed with the latest system firmware [V1.6.0].
Step2. Please ensure the Tx firmware has been updated to the latest [V3.0.1].
Step3. Please ensure the Rx firmware has been updated to the latest [V3.0.1].

What is the TX firmware that is supposed to be upgraded to 3.01?

Thanks!

The transmitter has two sets of firmware, Ethos which runs the radio, which is what you want in the 1.6.x range, and then there is the signal software that controls the radio link between tx and rx. That, is the one labeled 3.0.2.

I can't show you a screenshot of the 1.6.x firmware as I don't have my radio with me. It would show up when you plug in.
