At this time we are hearing a number of issues with the new Frsky firmware. Aloft Hobbies is suggesting you hold off on updating to this newest version until it has had some time to mature.

Thank you.

Bricked receivers was what triggered this warning. (Seems OTA may have a bug that can brick receivers.)

All companies deal with these challenges. I personally like to wait a few weeks before messing with updates be it my phone or a computer, etc.

I appreciate your advise. On the Facebook group “The official Frysky Ethos Group”. There was some negative comments implying that Aloft as a dealer just did not want to deal with the normal support issues. Crazy since that same group is dominated by posts with all the problems. I am trying to learn and look at this forum, facebook and youtube. So hard to know the quality of the source. Is the Official Frysky Ethos group on facebook actually administered by the Frysky company?

I do not know, I'm not on Facebook much at all. If there is a Facebook Steve posting there, then yes, he is an employee of the company. Sometimes he has correct answers sometimes not so much. Seems he does not like us for some reason, probably because we look out for our customers with posts like this one.

Reality is we have been importing, servicing and supporting the FrSky community longer than any other US based company. Long before FrSky even offered a transmitter.

Yes, that FB Ethos group is moderated by FrSky NA. Firmware 1.6 was hyped by FrSky NA so much that I believe a large number of people went for it. After its release, there were many complains posted on that FB group. Mostly it was people frustrated by the lack of clarity on how to install the firmware in the radio, the RF module and in the receivers. A few days later, FrSky NA wrote a guide and released a video on youtube with instructions on how to do this upgrade properly. I will stay on 1.5.18 until I see another truly stable firmware that offers a better experience. For my needs, 1.5.18 is excellent for now (I do not use stabilized receivers). On fw 1.6, the main change is an improved process of stabilized RXs set-up.

@Wayne - as you are their premier dealer and have better communication lines to the folks at FrSky: I updated my X10S Express to Ethos 1.6 around Christmas time and all seems to work well (though I have not flow with it yet). But it seems since the holidays, FrSky has pulled the versions of Ethos 1.6 for the X10 and X12 radios. Do you know/can you find out whether there will be fixes for whatever issues were found for the X10/X12 and there will still be support for Ethos on those radios going forward, or is 1.5.x the end of the line?

FWIW - I only plan on using ACCST receivers (with the UNI firmware) with the X10S, so I don't know if whatever issues made FrSky pull the release for the X10S Express affects me at all.

Thanks in advance!

Interesting.

First off FrSky had warned that they were not going to continue to develop ethos for the X10 sometime ago and most of us dealers complained, so it sounds like they went ahead and made 1.6 for it. That is pretty sweet. One concern they had sighted at the time was if Ethos would be able to fit on those radios or not. Sounds like it must.

I have not heard anything yet about them pulling any versions, I will ask for clarification. (message sent)

I have reverted my X10 ISRM Ethos 1.6.0, which seemed to work okay, back to 1.5.19 as 1.6.0 has been removed from Ethos Suite,I do wonder whether they are going to support existing issues going forward or is that it and the end of support for the X10.I had been waiting for Hitec support ,which was promised in version 1.5 and now released in 1.6 which is no good to me.
It seems that although Ethos is a lovely operating system it still does not have all the Basic functionality of Opentx.

What about the issues of Gps co-ordinates etc.I get that space may have been running out however I would have hoped to see existing issues sorted before dropping support rather than adding more functionality to the X10 .
I thought they wer going to reduce the functionality but keep supporting for now however,it seems, they are just going to drop support no prior warning.

I still see Ethos 1.6 on Suite. No comments found in RCGroups regarding this update. I did the upgrade and found no issues while updating a few receivers.

The radio firmware and the RF firmware are two separate things. Ethos is the radio firmware, and it is on like 1.6 or 1.6.1. The RF firmware is the part that runs the radio link between the transmitter and receiver, and it is currently on 3.0.1, and that is the part Wayne is talking about.

I reached out to Frsky but have not heard an official response. Other service dealers suspect this is a marketing decision.

In my opinion Ethos is far better than OpenTX. Are there some things OpenTX can do that Ethos can't? Maybe things, but there are also things Ethos does FAR better, and all CORE features are there.

Personally I'd like to see Ethos automate some of the basic maintenance items much better. Simple things.. Like install the current receiver and sensor files onto the transmitter automatically and urge the user to update when it detects and older receiver or sensor firmware is in use.

I e-mailed Frsky voicing my concerns about the removal of version 1.6.0 , I received the below response:

'Dear sir

There is a test verison v1.6.1 for X10-ISRM on the Githhub.
Please check.
Releases · FrSkyRC/ETHOS-Feedback-Community (github.com)'

https://github.com/FrSkyRC/ETHOS-Fee...unity/releases

However I still cannot see the X10 under assets unless I missed it.
edit: I received another e-mail today saying basically that they have now dropped further support for the Horus on Ethos.....extremely disappointed as it seems it is more to do with politics that hardware issues.

On the Frsky Ethos page is this note: "Note: Due to the system resource limitation, Horus series transmitters can’t support ETHOS 1.6.0 or later versions."
The "or later" seems to mean that we X10S-E and earlier users are now orphaned.
I kept one of my X10's on Ethos, to keep familiar with it, and hoping that someday in the future the promised "Companion" like interface would come to be, and I could make the plunge into the better Ethos radios. While the Ethos Suite appears to have some "stub outs" for doing model setups on a PC, apparently this part of the project that was aiming for late last year has been pushed much further out. I doubt using a now "old" version of Ethos will allow the Horus's to be compatible with it whenever it does finally arrive. So impossible to evaluate what it will be like without a then current Ethos radio.
Since I am firmly decided that I will not do without a PC interface...guess it is EdgeTX for now. We'll see whether that has the potential to tip me toward purchasing in the future from the evil "pirate" brand....I hope not. I like Frsky, and Aloft even more. But Frsky sometimes makes it hard to be a continuing customer....

This is the first time I have seen this notice. I am unclear if this applies to older non Express series or all of the X10 radio series.

Maybe Wayne could clarify this.

This is the latest response from Frsky renegading their previous statement:
'Dear sir

Sorry, after careful consideration and discussion,
We regret to inform you that support for X10-ISRM ETHOS v1.6.1 has been discontinued.
We understand this may be disappointing, and we truly share in your disappointment.'

So this only means no new operating software. The radio itself is still at a very high level and will continue to be a usable radio in the future. Lets face it how often have Spektrum or Futaba radios had software updates.
