hookingup s-bus on gr8 receiver

Hi, to hook up s-bus on gr8 recvr. do you just plugin s-bus in and plug other end to the port on top of recvr. ,and anybody know how many pins on that connection. Or am i way of how to do it. thanx Brett

S-Bus in would be the S-Bus output from another device. Often times this might be the output from another redundant RX.

S-Bus out is the serial data output. Often this would be used as part of the serial data link (daisy chain) to the S-Bus servos.

I'm a bit lost as to the "were does the other end plug in". I think you might be best served looking up some old Futaba U-tube videos as to what S-Bus is and its intended usage.

Again if we knew what you were trying to do we might be better able to help.

im trying to setup recvr. for s-bus like i said earlier thanx
 
What, S-Bus allows the use of 16 to 24 channels, not just one?

In the future with FrSky you will be able to pull 24 channels out of the S-Bus data stream with the GR8
For now the limit is 16 channels, as the Rx is currently set up for S-Bus (S-Bus out) See manual.

Are you aware that each S-Bus component (usually a servo) will need its own S-Bus ID? See what your S-Bus component provider offer in the way of a channel changer/ S-Bus ID changer.

S-Bus stands for serial buss. Serial meaning it encodes up to 16 possible devices controlled over a single cable. The GR8 S-bus out connection on the receiver supports 8 or 16 device connections. So in the case where you would use an RB30/40 one connection from the receiver gives the RB30, 16 possible PWM servo output connections. So if you want to connect a single servo to the S-bus you will need an S-bus decoder to pick off the required channel out of the 16 channel serial stream.

The GR8 S-bus output is not capable of running more than 1 or 2 digital servos due to the power requirement these servo,s may demand. That is why the RB30 has a high powered BEC built in which provides power to any connected devices. S-Bus is also used on many of the flight controllers so a single receiver connection provides the flight controller all the channels it needs to fly say a Multirotor craft.

A bit off topic from the OP's question.

But the S-bus power bus is the same one as that used with the PWM servo. We now drive many digital PWM servos off this power bus. As I recall the true limitation of most RX power bus it the current limitation of the Jr style connector. Most rate this connector at 5 amps (some as high as 7 amps). So since the S-Bus is using a Jr connector the limit is 5 to 7 amps. I'm not sure where the 1 or 2 digital servo limit is coming from. (The refresh rate duty cycle is another issue that can allow the servo amp draw to gang up causing brown out of voltage drop outs).

Like I asked, it would be nice to learn what is Bettman's application.

Well its because you could run up to 16 servos off the one so called JR / Futaba plug. Normally you could run 2 servos for Ail using a Y cord but 16 servos not recommended. RB30 has two 15amp continues BEC,s built in for this functionality.

Understanding the intended application is not important. He may simply be exploring alternatives.
 
Normally we run 6 to 7 digital servos off one Jr style connector. Here I show both a BEC and Battery application using digital servos and one Jr connector to handle all the current draw from the 6 digital servos. As he is using GS8 I choose to show high servo counts in glider application.

It is all about the application. Such as amp draw and S-Bus channels assignments. I agree that if using enough servos or large enough to put more than a 5 amp draw strain on the RX power bus, that it is best to move to a power distribution board. If the Rx is to drive a flybarless controller these often have there own power supply aside from the S-Bus input. Again knowing the Op's application would help greatly in giving him sound advice.

@brettman Henny has a good point in that the power supply for digital servos is a real concern. This is often over looked and can result in Rx brown outs. But the 2 servo limit on a Jr connector is in error.
