G-RX8, is there any other changes to this receiver. like longer antenna? I need one a bit longer than standard. I am tempted to try a 150mm small connector 1/4 wave that i bought a pack by accident. This would give me longer length to fit a carbon glider X-21 that I have. instead of the 1/5 wave that comes on them.
Great! Please let us know if there is any way we can tell ourselves, other than the hard way, whether we've got the no-protection original or this new one that can survive, like some sort of marking, firmware version, weight maybe, or if they're identical in appearance. Thanks for your work here.
I think the guys are receiving the shipment now. Seems our shipment was delayed as we had some Aluminum travel cases in the shipment.. Customs needed documentation on the cases because of the word aluminum.. Stupid tariffs!
For those who haven't bought this yet (seems it's back in stock), I get stronger RSSI with this than the X8R by the way and rx voltage telemetry too, I think. The built-in vario seems to have 0.1m/s resolution (like the high-precision vario) not one meter, something I suggest noting on the product page if I'm correct.
Amazing device, amazing price, and great support from Aloft as exhibited right here. A receiver with telemetry support, RSSI reporting, eight (or up to sixteen) channels and a sensitive variometer with a fast, low-delay refresh rate (I have one, it's fast), weighing only 5.8g? A common voltage buzzer weighs 9g. The counterpart Spektrum bundle option would be $104 for the non-expandable receiver, $50 for telemetry support and another $50 for a very inferior vario (insensitive resolution, excessive delay). That's six times the price, five times the weight for poorer functionality than what you'd get with this puppy from Aloft.
I just ordered another last night when it was back in stock. Happen to know, Wayne, if I got one with the polarity protection?
We are trying to confirm about the polarity protection as FrSky still has a warning sticker on the packaging.
Delay? Yes, there is a slight delay as FrSky is sending more than just the vario data back on the telemetry link. This has been debated on other forums, but I think you will find the FrSky system a very good aid in thermal hunting, and for sure the best bang for the buck out there!
@Skye - What other varios are you considering? I think there is an opensource unit out there with some decent specs.. We could look into getting something along those lines manufactured if there is enough interest. Maybe we can get it a little smaller and more affordable than the one of design.
I use frsky’s normal and precision varios. I’d hoped for an integrated solution but the altitude on this one is so inaccurate that I’ll use it only as a light receiver.
