Dear Aloft community, that friend of Nate is me!
This radio works fine these days, except THIS little issue: I can't seem to get back to the main menu.
-- The joystick works fine navigating through the functions and features.
-- Is it perhaps just a broken EXIT
button circuit?
Am I missing something obvious?
Is this a common problem?
Thanks in advance for any ideas you may have -- much appreciated here.

A pretty common cause of this on any of the FrSky radios is some dirt particles getting into the switches. I had this happen to my X18 at the last event, I could use the touch screen to get around it. Eventually the dirt moved on and the switch has worked fine since.

So easy thing to try, shake the living daylights out of the radio. Maybe you will get lucky.

Not so easy thing to do is open up the radio and get down to those switches and spray them with contact cleaner or use a strong air blast on them, see if that does the trick. The bad news is that is one of the worst radio cases to open. :( Check some videos for suggestions if you have not opened it before. Good chance a clip or two will be damaged in the process. Even if you do kill a clip or two, the radio will still close up well.

Hope that does the trick for you. I have usually been able to fix a dirty switch with contact cleaner.

Another thing to look at is to make sure the plastic is pushing on the switch correctly. Other FrSky radios had some issues with this, but not aware of it on your model.

Being in "Channel monitor", what happens when you press the page button ??

As I remember the "channel monitor" is part of the main menu (page 5).
When you switch to the "Model menu" and then leave with exit you come back to the Menu-page that was active before (in your case that seems to be the "Channel Monitor").
You have to press page (not exit) to get from the "Channel monitor" to one of the other pages of the main menu.

Thank you. I agree with what you say about the "page" function (i.e., using the joystick, make one beep to the right or the left) to find MENU options, but I'm just wanting to get back to the "MAIN SCREEN".

@John in Boston this is one of the main reasons (aside from age of old radio) that i switched to x20. The touchscreen. Cause thats what happens, your radio sits for months and you totally forget what the HECK is the back button lol. If you ever do decide to upgrade they have a version of your radio now with a touchscreen, its pretty cool.

Just having a keyboard appear on screen that you can touch is a great quality of life option for setting up new models.

I sometimes wish that I would have gotten the X20 because the screen is a bit bigger than my X18. Other times I wish I had purchased a Spektrum because Red can program a full-house glider in minutes. He's probably glad I didn't get one because then I'd have twice as many questions for him and I already have far too many.
