Frsky XHT module receiver compatability

I have a couple XHT modules that I bought a couple years ago to update some vintage radios just for fun. Finally got around to working on the transmitters over the christmas break here and ran into a bit of a snag. I could not get the XHT module to bind to any of my Archer Plus receivers in my stash, with the module set to D16. I was under the impression that the archer plus receivers would retro back to D16, but then I remembered the whole V1 vs V2 thing from back in that time period, and I was wondering if the XHT modules were V1...and maybe that the Archer Plus though D16, were V2 only? Do I need like say X8R receivers with the UNI-RX? What are my options? Thanks!

You also have the possibility that there is an incompatibility because of FCC/LBT versions of firmware.
It is possible to update the firmware on the XHT(s) via the SPort on them. Have you updated any firmware on FrSky devices using the SPort before?

There used to be a firmware update to make the XHT V2. Check FrSkys downloads. I am pretty sure there is an update for them. Once they are V2 the Archer Plus' should bind to them.

Ok, that all makes sense and It is coming back to me now! I dug out my STK dongle and all to flash the 2.1 firmware on the XHT, but I am running into a it of an issue. it seems like the STK does not have enough current capacity to keep the XHT alive for flashing due to the TX output. Do I need to power the XHT with an seperate supply directly, and splice the S-Port and Negative wires to the STK?

If there is V2 for the XHT, that should do the trick. If it is not available, then I think X8Rs with UNI would get you up and running.

I always just used a FrSky radio. If you do not have a FrSky radio you could probably power it with a 7 - 9v (or so) power source.

Ok....External power was spliced in (with the positive wire removed from the STK connector). The STK is being seen by the PC, drivers are all updated, the XHT module has solid LEDS and beeps once when powered on. We are plugged into port 2, and the dip switch is set to "upgrade". I am running the XHT off of 7.5V and its pulling about 130mA. Using Frsky Sport Update program version 20, and it cannot go past "searching for device". Running Win11 BTW. I have never flashed an XHT or XJT.

Indeed I did find V2 firmware for the XHT, so...kind of excited about that.... I just need to communicate with the darn thing

Unfortunately I have never updated one via computer.
I know it is not IN a FrSky radio, If you know anyone WITH a FrSky radio the update would be far easier.

Keep the XHT powered OFF until you get to the "Finding Device", then power it on.

I mean I have a few Frskys in the stable, I wonder if you are right and it would be worth trying it off of a transmitter with an umbilical.
