FrSKY Taranis X9d Plus and X8R Telemetry Signal Lost Problem

Hello,
I'm new to the forum here and been using and learning about the OpenTx on a Taranis X9D+ and using GRX8. want to use on a new Voyager F5J plane which is 7 Ch.
Having a few issues that I am at a loss to explain or fix.
setup: X9D+
Firmware 2.3.3
GRX8 firmware 191115
Sbus mode with SD1 for 7th channel
MKS6100 all servos

Binding:
Mode: XJT D16
CH Range: 1-8

Problem:
Very noisy servo chatter. noticeably worse on Ch 5-7
Now the servos and doing a twitch ever 10 seconds or so. mostly Ch. 6 and 7. those all will do to lesser degree.
What is going on?
How can I fix this?

thanks,
Ron

Start by updating the OpenTX to 2.3.4 There was a timing glitch in 2.3.3 that caused a glitch every 18 seconds or something along those lines. Also - make sure your Tx is a couple meters from the Rx -- or you may see swamping from (essentially) too much signal which may give issues.

Even befor 2.3.3 the lower resolution channels (5,6,7,8) buzzed but did not glitch.
(I recall there being higer and lower resolution channel outputs)

Good morning Konrad,

Your correct on 1-4 being HS and the rest FS mode.
just tested to eliminate voltage being lower at 5.6V to 6.6 Life and same results.

Latest firmware maybe on either the reciever or X9d+ ? Test another plane next.

Good morning,

Found the problem finally after a couple of days.

thanks for the trip. I have been as far and 20 meters away with no change, but understand not being on top of the transmitter. I haven't gone to 2.3.4 yet but did decide to go back to 2.2.4 and left the Rx update and all is quiet. Did find along the way the the EPROM update is NOT backwards compatible.
Hopefully we get some feedback from some others willing to go the 2.3.4. I have lost weeks of time with the 2.3.x series.
Happy New Years! KNOW IT BETTER WITHOUT THE HUMMING FOR ME

I have upgraded my Horus X10s to 2.3.4 and am still working on having the ISRM module upgrade working at full range, presently this upgrade appears to be at quarter output RF power. If you install the new firmware using Companion on the Horus radio with the power off it will also install the Bootloader in the same firmware upgrade operation.

I have found a copy of firmware for my X9D+ of 2.2.2 which is where I started from. picked an old glider with the X4R receiver and no servo chatter. I was ready to throw the transmitter. So now to see if I can figure out why the GRX8 with firmware 191115 has all the humming. Any ideas? Could it actually be the transmitter? Bought from Wayne Nov 2018.
I'm so frustrated. More testing now that I know all is fine with old firmware and receiver.

You need to upgrade your X9D radio to 2.3.4, there were issues with servo jitter on earlier versions. Just go to https://www.open-tx.org/. So in companion first upgrade the companion firmware it will then prompt to upgrade the X9D firmware to 2.3.4. I have the Horus X10s and found no issues with version 2.3.4

Sky you said in an earlier post you have SBUS activated, why as you lose PWM channel-8. Are you using a flight controller?

Good morning,
I actually did go to 2.3.4 as suggested with the same results minus the 18second flip. Still loud humming in the servos. Ch 5 the worst. used mulitple receivers.
So here is the latest, went back to 2.2.2 where things were normal. S-bus mode with HS. Now with the X4r-SB all channels are quiet. with the GRX8 only ch.5 humming. I'm lost on this one.

Hallo, I'm writing from Italy. I reached this forum in search for solution to my problem.
I have a Taranis X9D+ binded with a RX8RPRO in a 3m electric glider that I was before flying with a RX8R and never had a problem.
The first time I've flown the glider with the new receiver, after the climb I got telemetry and signal lost: the glider banked hard as if an aileron got fully deflected; then, in a matter of seconds, I got telemetry and signal back for few seconds and then lost both again and so on till the ground.
I have a Castel Creation Phoenix Edge 100A that has a 5A BEC inbuilt. The glider is equipped with 4 Hitec 125MG in the wing + 2 mini servo.
I tried to replicate the problem on the ground and I found that, by moving all the servo at the same time, I was able to do it.
I replicated this test with the RX8R I was using before on the glider and it was all working fine.
Then I tried to use NiCd / NiMh battery pack (both 5 elements), using a voltimeter between the battery pack and the receiver and logging the results of the telemetry.

This is what I discovered. The RX8RPRO switch off (red led) with lost telemetry and signal lost as soon as the Voltage drops below 4,8V.
The RX8R instead keeps working well below this voltage.
Looking at the specs. both receivers are rated for a voltage between 3,5V and 10,0V.

So, the reason of my crash is that my Phoenix Edge ESC was feeding 5V and, with all the servos moving, the voltage dropped below the critical 4,8V and the RX8RPRO stopped working. By stopping, the voltage of the BEC went up again to 5V and the receiver woke up again: at this point I had the sticks all the way on one side to recover the glider, so again: full servo load, voltage below 4,8V and the flying circus went on this way till the ground.

Attached you can see a test LOG I've recorded using a 5cell NiCd battery pack. The first run is with the PRO, the second with the standard RX8R. I tested the PRO before to put it in the best condition (battery almost fully charged).

Interesting. I would return that receiver as it must have something wrong. Most FrSky receivers will work down below the 3.5 volt rating some well below. Typically the servos will stop working before the receiving gives up. I have heard a few complaints recently about the Castle BEC quality.

@Konrad - Didn't you have an issue like this with a Castle ESC? Can you expand?

No issues with the Castle BECs. Ether those found on the ESC or the discreet component BEC. Now I've had some servos work within the same model number work at lower voltages than others. But this was a 1 lipo issue with no BEC in the line. And yes the FrSky RX (Rx4R) was still working at these lower voltages. I'd have to do some digging to find the servo brand and model number. (I don't think you are currently carrying these servos.

I'm flying a Samsara with 6 KTS X0-8+ servos on 4 cell with a Talon 60 ESC. Not a glitch on the power system.

As I recall there is a servo amplifier problem with an early production run of the HS 125 wing servo. But I thought it was with the Digital 5125

The 5amp BEC is a bit weak for driving 6 servos particularly if all 6 are digital (Not the case if using HS125) Also the smaller Micro servos often draw more power than the larger servos for the same power.

I have to ask how fast is the aircraft?

All the best,
Konrad

P.S.
I see a data file I'll see what it shows

I have to ask, what does the airflow look like around the ESC? I think you are seeing thermal runaway.
Moving all the servo and getting a voltage drop is an indication that you have an issue with the power supply not the RX.
I don't know if you have a stalled servos or if there isn't enough airflow across the Edge ESC/BEC. I use the Edge ESC (50 amp and 75 amp) a lot often in 6 cell EDF models. As I recall I have the BEC set at 5.1 volts.

Ahh, I think it was Ed G. that had the issue. I want to say he put an oscilloscope on the output and was surprised by the junk it was sending out. Thus the ferrite they put on the output. Ed was having plenty of odd issues with his planes but always trusted the Castles.

Sorry for confusing my locals. :)

No problem. My Castles outputs have been clean. Well, for a toy power supply. If this is the plane, this one it can build up speed and put a load on the RX/Servo power system. https://alofthobbies.com/top-model-thermik-dream.html

If the voltage drops below the reset voltage for a few micro seconds most microprocessor based Rx will reset. So a good BEC is needed.

I did have an issue with an Align 600 using an Align BEC. I solved it with a Castle BEC pro. As the collective moved (3 very fast digital servos) Vss would drop triggering a reset in the Spektrum RX.

this issue has driven me nuts. it seems worse with the S series which i know to also often have RSSI issues as well... I have switched between X10 and x9 with no help... I have also changed the radio module in my 'x10 And tried an external module... NO there is something wrong with the Frsky product as far as telemetry goes and something wrong with the S series in general (quality control issues I think} I am frustrated, but I am crazy about the functionality, and have way too much money wrapped up to change......I have quit buying the
s series completely, which seems to have so many telemetry issues that I often get the stabilizer programming completed without the usb stick..... OH ya I also did their bogus update their ACCST 2 which actually seems to make the issue worse... I have been only buying RX receivers only... which incidentally are also not immune from telemetry issues....

Frustrated...

PLEASE do not do the above - very poor idea.

The telemetry lost, telemetry found is not related to RSSI. It simply means the transmitter lost telemetry feed from the receiver. It is interesting that this seems to effect a very small group of folks, and a receiver replacement did not cure the issue.

Are all of you that have this issue using a Taranis or Taranis Plus?
I am hsing x10 s with internal xjt. AND external. AND a taranis X9D+. All behave the same. I put zll antennas in an arrangement one horizontal, one vertical. I Am wondering if anyone has tried with Jumper T16 and fine tuned frequency

Hi guys, I have been flying for 2 years with Horus X12s with the original FrOs operating system and so far I have never had any problems ... I have a problem on a model, I have installed a G-RX8, a fiberglass pod but antennas still installed outdoors, when the model is far away, let's say about 70/100 meters, the RSSI collapses to zero and the transmitter loses telemetry for a couple of seconds, after which the RSSI becomes powerful again in an instant and the alarm disappears, only to reappear again later ... the RSSI signal does not gradually lose power, but everything happens quickly, it is similar to a switch that turns off and then turns on again ... telemetry is missing for 1/2 seconds, rarely 5/6 seconds then everything returns normal ... luckily the control of the model remains perfect, no problem on the servos ... but this is annoying, I have other G-RX8 on other models and I have never had problems ... I also tried to replace the receiver with another G-RX8 but the problem is not solved ... someone is happened?

Sounds like an antenna nule problem. Does this happen as you are coring a thermal? Or does this happen while flying in a straight line?
Are the antennas 90° to each other. While the fuse maybe glass is there any conductive material near the antennas?
