I am looking at the Taranis X9 Lite 5 and am wondering if I would need to make adjustments to use my Frsky D4R-II rx's (ACCST) with this transmitter. If this is not feasible, what would be a similar rx that I could use in place of the D4R's? I fly DLG and need small straight pin configuration to get them to fit in my planes.

The plain X-9 Lite will need to be flashed with new firmware allowing it to run ACCST and ACCESS, as it can only run ACCESS from the factory. The X-9 Lite S will run ACCST and ACCESS straight from the factory.

Another receiver that would work great in a DLG would be an RX4R or RX6R. They run ACCST (as all receivers besides the Archers do), have a straight-pin configuration, and are much smaller and lighter than older receivers such as the D4R-II. I'm currently using an RX4R in one of my DLGs, a little one-meter ship with not much room to spare, and it works out great.

You cannot run your D4RIIs without an external module with an X9 Lite since they are D8 which is no more supported by the new ACCESS radios.

So to confirm, the rx4r rx will work with the X-9 Lite right of the box, no firmware update needed?

Firmware upgrades will most likely be needed becasue of the ACCST V1/V2 thing and not knowing what the stock of a particular retailer comes with (unless they specifically mention it).

I wonder if FrSky has a production release for the ACCST V2. (As this is a safety issue one would think they would). Also the product should have a way to Identify what is what, much like the FCC, EU LBT RX stickers.

I just got an X-lite S moving up from my 2014 FrSky equipment. It looks like I'll be drowning in all these protocol incompatibility issues, just as soon as the batteries are charged.
Just looked at my new ISRM-S Module and it is showing 1.1.3FCC so again I assume there is still no product production release for ACCST V2.

To my knowledge there has yet to be any product released flashes with ACCST V2, only V1. There X9 Lite will need a firmware update to run ACCST, as it runs ACCESS out of the box. The S variant of the lite will be compatible out of the box.

I'm pretty sure I've seen reports of people receiving receivers with v2.
But of course once there's a production change like this it takes months for it to propagate fully. You'll always have a chance of getting a unit that's been sitting on a shelf for a year at the retailer you bought from.

In Germany the main FrSky dealer sells the receivers with V2 installed. He orders them this way from frSky, but he finds he has to double check them as sometimes they are actually V1. Thus a big head ache for him. In Germany the V1 issue is much more of a problem than here.

I have debated offering them with the current V2, but instead we offer to burn V2 at the time of purchase, just let us know and we do this for you, no charge. So few take us up on this that we do not yet see a need to offer V2. Also, the Archer line is really starting to sell well.

Good to know.

So Frsky has no way to indicate configuration control? I'm thinking like they do with the FCC and EU-LBT labels we see on the RX packaging.

I like Wayne's solution, by flashing the latest firmware version at point of sale is the way to go. Outstanding customer service.

I wish we didn't have all of these different firmwares. And really don't understand why the newest firmware can't be backwards compatible. That would certainly makes things better! Just have the transmitter warn us if it is using V1 firmware. It is very doable IMHO.
