FrSky Access and Accst Issues

Hello,
I've been enjoying my Jumper T Lite and looking at some new BNF options, particularly the Nazgul5 V2. It seems that all the FrSky XM+ and R-XSR receivers are now shipping with Access 2.x firmware instead of ACCST 2.x.

I've watched some videos that show I can use an external module on my Jumper T Lite (which I still need to install) and solder three wires to the receiver to downgrade its firmware.

As someone who is still new to soldering and BNF builds, how difficult is it to remove a receiver from a pre-built model, flash it, and then re-solder it?

I'm conflicted because I don’t want to invest in an Access radio due to my issues with FrSky's current direction. I'm considering getting a TBS Nano for my Jumper T Lite, knowing it maxes out at 25mW, which I hear is acceptable for TBS.

Alternatively, I could get a new radio like the TBS Tango 2. I’ve noticed many drone models offer a Crossfire purchase option. I also know I can add a 4-in-1 module to a TBS Tango later if I’d rather not juggle two radios.

Thanks for any advice and help!

Richard - Curious what issues you have with FrSky's current direction?

I ask this as the drone market has a flood of negativity towards FrSky based on information that comes directly from Jumper and Radio Master. I honestly thought we were past those days, and people had figured out that the clone companies and their negativity was not based on reality, just them trying to make sales any dishonest way they can.

FrSky is not perfect, but they have always worked hard to produce very high quality radios with cutting edge features and they have forced other brands to work much harder to keep up. Is FrSky perfect? No But are they honest and working hard to make their customers happy? Hell yes. They are far more responsive than any other company, and their radios last for many many years as they build them right with top quality components. The clones cut every corner they can on the electronics, and spend their money on marketing and attacking.

XM+ still has ACCST v2, but not ACCESS. Are you sure it's the XM+ you're talking about?
R-XSR is indeed compatible with ACCST v2 and ACCESS v2 and requires a flash to be able to use the other protocol. From the pictures on the FrSky website it shows that the receiver has a connector, which would indicate you can just use a cable with plug to connect to the receiver?

If you have issues soldering some wires, maybe a club-member or friend can help you out? If not, maybe good to practice soldering wires before attempting to solder the receiver wires. ;)

About BNF, not sure what brand of models you are talking about? If those are Horizon/E-Flite models, then you'll need a Module in the back of your radio that supports DSMX protocol. A MultiProtocol TX module can do that. These days these modules are mostly ready to go and can be flashed from the radio if you need to upgrade the firmware (no soldering required).
