Free Flight Jetliner RC conversion

This is a fun build for the Sunset State Beach slope event that is just around the corner. I hope to do some pylon racing with this against other folks with the same plane. If you would like one, send me a message. Maybe I can add them to the website really quick. For $6 you get the plane and a set of fiberglass control horns. The rest is up to you. (That makes it fun!)

Here is my build. Took a few hours, would have been quicker, but I'm a slow thinker, planning out how I wanted to do it. Was going to do a wingeron, but that takes more time.

I had a set of micro servos from Emax sitting around, sadly they no longer offer this size. Added an R6 receiver and a 600mah 1S lipo and a 2" extension to serve as a switch. The rest is carving foam and a little music wire for the pushrods.

Started off with removing the steel ball, it is behind the front door.

Then I popped it in the band saw:

Cut the flight surfaces and mounted my servos:

Added the rest of the radio gear. Yep, this is where they needed to go for CG.

I slid the sides together many times test fitting. Wanted to keep as much foam as possible.

The only carbon I added was on the tail as I was only going to drive one side.

And here she is getting her first charge. I like simple Z bends for these basic planes.

I'll have to monitor the voltage, these servos don't like the lower voltages too much. Will need to keep it up above 3.9 volts. I can probably fly it for many hours with the 600mah cell. LOL

Still need to decorate it.

Got her charged up and did the throw test from the lawn at Aloft. Seems ok, but might be rather tip stall happy. Hard to say until we get it to a slope and dial it in a bit more. Felt like she was still nose heavy. Currently she s pretty close to the stock CG.

Let me know if you want one, for $6 you get the plane kit and a set of fiberglass control horns. Shipping will probably cost more than the plane. :(
