Forza 2.5

Thought I had already posted this...
tick - 2.jpeg

Finally got my big Forza out for some air time. As typical for Hammond's designs she flew with no trim adjustments. Instantly I was hit with how nice she flies and was enjoying the performance and balance. Sorry no video.

I have always liked the Forza, think they are Hammond's most enjoyable design. It offers a great mix of speed, handling, energy retention, acro and easy landing all wrapped into one attractive package. I had a nice 2 meter version some years ago and let someone talk me out of it, I figured I'd just build up another, but then they became scarce. Jump ahead a few years and I finally have one, but even better, this is the new 2.5 meter version! The 2.5 flies much like the 2 but with even better speed and energy retention.

I have been flying Hammonds prototype Corsa 2.75m for a few years, and these planes are similar, but really enjoy the Forza, it is a little more relaxed where the Corsa is more of a speed freak with a tiny little fuselage.

She is outfitted with KST servos all around, and both tail servos (X08) are in the vertical. She has a slip off nose cone and a ballast tube for the bigger wind days.

I'll add that I really like this paint scheme easy to see and looks great.

If you should see me flying her at an event, ask and maybe I'll let you grab the sticks, she is a wonderful plane everyone should experience. I dare say she is my favorite glider!

Note: This glider was originally had a 2 meter wing and was known as the Stormbird. It was then updated and the span increased to 2.5 meters and given a new name, Forza. You may see mention of the old name here and there in this thread.

@Motowncali - Thanks for your expert build on this plane!! Your tail setup feels great in the air!! Very direct and crisp. You and Hammond working together to refine this tail layout has really paid off. The plane is very precise and locked in on all axis, now I need to clean up my flying to really get her moving around the sky like she can!

Need to mix in a little reflex as James tells me she responds well to it, probably put this on a push button on my TX. I have a tiny bit of snap flap dialed, will play with different levels and she how she responds. Generally love snap flap on planes that respond to it. (snap flap is elevator to camber)

Can we get a detailed photo of Mo's elevator actuation system? I'm still impressed with the set up Mo came up with for the Gremlin.

Love the cruciform tail and the camber changing elevator.

the only difference between schwing corsa and stormbird forza is the slip on nose cone versus canopy. the moulds should be the same or are there some other specifica at the fin?

Different aircraft, with shared DNA. Corsa is 2.75 meter and Forza is 2.5 meter. Corsa is a VERY minimal fuselage, Forza has a lot more room, I'd say it is the right sized fuselage as it is easier to outfit and live with. The Corsa is more focused on speed and the Forza is more of well rounded plane IMHO. I like them both, but if I can only have one, it would be the Forza.

Ahhh yes, more useful information from the person who bought the ripped off Redshift.

Crikey Chaps, I really hate uninformed statements. At best they cause confusion, at worst conflict.

Now hear ye, and hear ye from me:

These are Completely different airframes.

Different fuselages, different wings, different tails, different wing joiners, completely different specs, different everything.

Now how would I know that for an absolute fact?

BTW another fact is that Mo Culverwell is one of the last of a dying breed of....wait for it...AEROMODELLERS! If there is a way to do anything out of the ordinary to get the best results in, or on a model aircraft, then its lurking in Mo's active brain somewhere.

Cheers,

Doc.

Aresti 108 with servos in the tail.

I am so sorry guys. The cutting wing servo covers thread was done with pics from this build, but looking back, November of 2019, the build photos never got uploaded. Here are the pics.

I am glad you are loving this plane. I recall taking what I learned from the previous tail servo set ups and even though these were directly glued in, I really wanted to fly this one. the nose cone and shotgun ballast was great. Having to solder the ball onto the wire to keep the elevator linkage centered was new as the tail was so narrow on this plane. But it was tight and right! Happy times.
I really miss slope flying! But I am loving Texas and the new people I am meeting.

Flew here again this weekend. :) Carries really good energy, like a larger F3F ship. I have yet to add any ballast. Landings are simple and easy with the big flaps and ailerons. Have not flown with any ballast yet, but she honestly flies around like she has a load of ballast, just keeps going. The guys were talking about her speed and energy level while I was flying, so it isn't just me that thinks this. And it sure ins't my flying skills.

This flight I was just going back and forth on the hill having a good time. Occasionally I'd throw a roll or loop in, then back and forth for a while longer. I was perfectly happy going back and forth, this is not normal for me. I guess what I am saying is even back and forth was very enjoyable. She was very happy to be right on the lip of the slope at speed, probably 1 foot above the lip. Not something I do with similar planes.

FUN FUN FUN

...why do so many people forget that?

More ballast...reflex...new pacemaker battery...Yaaahhhh!
