Looks interesting just for the Find my plane feature... I am going to wait for the price to drop though. I doubt there will be much enforcement for quite a while after it is required.
Still waiting for my Module to ship. Was hoping it would get here before los banos, so i could at least try it out. Says backordered until December now.
He’s just explaining how the $100 +\- price tag includes the costs associated with certification by government bodies. Analogous to the old debate about why military or aviation spec hardware costs so much more than apparently similar hardware from Home Depot
People bitching about flitetest $100 id price and him explaining there's a big difference between something that transmits remote id and something that complies with all government regulations and transmits remote id.
Well I hate to prove the Youtube dude wrong again, but it looks like we will be getting into the Remote ID game after all.
I suspect we will fall in the "impossible" price range.
It is my opinion these companies are making a massive profit at $100. (I estimate the more popular provider has already made $375,000 profit off of their first 2 batches of units sold thanks to that high sell price and the number of registered units.)
I will add that I do not like the Remote ID solution, but if it is the law we got, and I guess it could have been far worse. I'll do my best to make it as cheap as possible for our community.
I bought one from a guy on RCGroups for $55. My only complaint with his was the lack of a voltage regulator chip, which I will add to it when I box it.
Yep, I bought one of those as well. Seems well made, he said he's looking at using a different, drop-in regulator that will be good up to 18v (the current is only good to 6v, so you need regulation/BEC for anything more then a 5cell NiMH). I don't think he's going into full production though, he's just making them in small batches as far as I know.
Hopefully someone will work with him to get these produced in quantity.
We are working with David to bring a slightly updated version to production. (Turns out David is one of our customers. )
He has updated the voltage regulator and tested it well beyond what anyone should be running through a receiver, all is good. A few small changes to the layout of the board and components to make it a little better for all.
That's awesome Wayne. Glad you guys are making this happen. This is really the first RID module available that I think is aimed at traditional RC power/glider aircraft and not just quads. Any rough (as in what quarter of 2024) ideas as to availability? I messaged Dave earlier today to put me on the list for a couple more when he has some available. March is gonna get here way earlier then we think and while we fly a relatively remote slope, still wouldn't want to lose it due to being too caviler.
