F3F World Championship: Aug 24-29, 2026 in Cantabria, Spain

For anyone who might be interested, the F3F World Champ Competition kicks off in Spain next week. A German RC modeling website, RC-Network.de, always does a pretty good write up of these events. F3F is still quite popular over there and it's not the least bit uncommon that someone from their team wins the event. Below is a link to the event. Just turn on translation if you German is anything like mine, i.e., nonexistent!

That is blazing fast! Over 150 km/hr…almost 100 mph average speed. He was the world champ last time in 2024.

The actual world championship event starts tomorrow. The site looks really nice for racing.

Here's what 23.74 seconds of F3F flying looks like on video. The distance covered must be at least 50% more than the standard 100 meter course for F3F competition pushing the average speed up toward 150 mph. Wow, that's fast!

The first day of competition was largely windless. Doesn't look like today is all that much better.

Yeah, that was some pretty wild flying . I saw a couple other videos of flights of over the weekend in the mid-20s and they looked equally crazy. I saw evidence that a few racers may have crashed into the edge of the slope. It's not for the faint of heart. Hopefully the conditions improve for the actual world championship event. So far, I think it's a bust.

Sadly, the 2026 F3F World Championship competition became a non-event. The winds just scarcely blew at all during the five days of competition. And, this was despite a stellar pre-contest in which a world record was recorded. What a pity. We'll just have to wait for 2028.

Well, I do not doubt that all the guys had a good time even though the weather gods didn't cooperate.

Look on the bright side!

As we all know, half (or more) of the fun is just chatting slopeside, who's doing what, new models, new ideas and even with light winds, maybe some off-contest flights - I bet a few people bought an F3K chuckie along. And hey, there are many worse places to spend a few days than Spain. Just don't tell the trouble and strife!
