F3F Team Selection (Help With Flagging Base "A" & Base "B")!

What kind of a call for help is this? There is no contact information.

Really many, many good folks are not allowed or would in good conscience give RCGoofs the time of day! They (RCG's) are an dispicable organization with a very sketchy history. This has alienated many good folks. Any organization that wants to reach a dedicated targeted audience should not, can not, rely on RCG as a credible tool for the distribution of information. This is particularly true in the todays age of misinformation.

If anybody knows the organizers they need to tell them to put a call to the near by clubs. And if they feel they need to soil the reputation of the event by using RCG at least provide contact information in that correspondence that does not rely on RCG’s whim to allow access to the communication media (PM’s).

All the best,

Konrad

What other way is there to get or find the information. I've been using RCG for my source for finding events and I'm not aware of other ways.

The AMA has published dates and contacts. Far better than RCGoofs!
For example there is no contact info in the thread I linked.

RCG has limited the scope of who can be contacted based on their desire to protect their despicable sponsors. If you discredit a sponsors with technically accurate reports you are asked to retract the statements. If you have a conscience and hope to better the modeling community and refuse, you risk being banned. RCG should have a statement in the posting guidelines that sponsors will be protected at the discretion of the management of RCG. I asked for such a statement, if they wanted me to self sensor my comments made to inform the membership at large.

E-Zone use to be a place for the advancement of electric flight. It's scope was changed to the betterment of its owners shortly after it changed to RCGroups. E-Zone was part of the information highway, RCG is just a B2B site (click bait) that does not even pay for its editorial content. At least the dead tree press paid authors even if they also protected their ad base.

RCG does not represent the full spectrum of modelers. I contend they don't actually represent the more dedicated modeling population. It is from this spectrum of the modeling community that you get the volunteers and competitors that push the boundaries of what is possible.

I thank you for your service.

Without volunteers most contests can't be held.

All the best,
Konrad

The races went well. I worked base B Saturday. The fastest run was about 34.5sec. Most runs were between 40 and 44sec. They were done by 4pm and the wind was only getting better.
Bill did a really good job of running the races and Tim's F3F timing system worked flawlessly; there were no delays once they started flying. I think only one airplane was broken, but it was fixed on site and up and racing again.
The F3F Team will be Warren Day, Tim Traver, and Dave Cortina.

If you are in the area, now is the time to fly Grass Mnt, the winds are good and the road is in great shape.

Thank you for the report. And thank you for working the Base "B". Do you know anything about the equipment used, I mean the models flown?

All the best,
Konrad

There were two Shintos, one Dropps, a Pike Perfect, a bunch of Freestylers 5 and at least one 4. I didn't see any Pitbulls.
Thirteen racers, not a big group to pick a team to race for the USA. Apparently there is little interest and flying sites outside of CA.

As far as I know all of the F3F in this country is in California, Oregon and Utah. I think we discussed this recently and maybe one other location was suggested. All of California only has 2 or 3 active groups that may have 12 pilots each??? It is not a big group of folks to pick from. It seems that parts of Europe have much more activity in F3F.

F3F is a cool event. It moves fast and although the flight pattern is simple, it is not easy. Too bad more folks are not in to it in the USA.

I'm note sure how I feel about trying to be part of such an elite group of fliers!
This explains why F3F stock (inventory) seems to moves so slowly.

All racing would look to be simple, flying is circles or figure eights. But trying to do that 10 time and in varying air conditions, I'll tell you the stop watch is a cruel mistress!

All the best,

Europe also has much more relaxed laws about where we can fly as well as endless grass covered mountain ranges. LOL

Well, I don't know if that is true, but it sure seems that way at times.

All in all, I'd say we can get away with flying at a lot of slope sites in California. I will say that the bay area is more restricted than So Cal, but I think that is mostly due to the protected status of the sea shore near me. Basically the same levels of protection as a national park, and the budget to have rangers all over the place. So Cal you simply do not have that, and at best the police might stop in to see what you are doing. We used to try and get them flying some of our models.. :) Rangers around here are not even close to interested in taking the controls. They must get merit badges or something when they ruin someone's afternoon, they are just to gun ho when they run up a trail to yell at us about flying drones, and this is when we are flying at our legal sites. LOL I have not encountered this anywhere else.

We were chased out of Pt Fermin by the rangers, because a bird watcher complained. It seams the bird watchers are following RCG looking to stop flying at Pt Fermin.
Down the road there is White Point which is private land and there has been an arrangement with the owner. It is not as fast as Pt F, but is a lot nicer spot to fly.
Some places are just remote enough where no one really cares. The DS'ers go to places where are hard to drive to and when you get there you have it to your self. Totally off the grid flying.

How does RCGoof have any input on this issue? Are goof balls posting video harassing nesting birds?

RCG is an open forum. The guys go on there and complain about bird watchers or the rangers. Those other groups can go on and see what everyone is saying. They look for evidence of flyers bothering the birds or other people or keep track of what they are saying even if it isn't supporting their case about harassing the birds and then use that as evidence to make their case. Even the language used can be enough to make cases against flying in areas. I don't think RCG does anything about it.

I didn't know specifics. I just know that RCG is open and guys post lots of vitriol on there. If it was in the other camp (Bird watchers), i would be scouring it for to show they are combative etc. But yes putting the race schedule up like that let them know when a whole bunch of flyers might be there. Back in the day it would be published in Model Aviation which is public but one would have to get there hands on a copy. That is slightly more work than just googling something.

My field in O.C. is currently having some opposition from a bird watching group too. It does not help that some of the guys are going on RCG and venting about them or the rangers. We got a one year extension this year by the skin of our teeth.

Wow, that is interesting. I occasionally see some video of people harassing birds with RC planes, and I usually comment on it. That is bad for all involved. I have seen the same done with full scale pilots, especially paramotors. This activity should be stopped ASAP as it bad for the wildlife and bad for the hobbies. We should self police a bit more as nothing good comes from these abuses. The problem is not an open forum or sharing of race schedules. It is stupid people doing stupid things. Yes, even a sea gull should be left alone, and there are plenty of those around Pt Fermin.
