External Antenna For X20S

I just ordered a X20S radio. I don’t think it comes with an external antenna. I wanted to add the 2.4G antenna for better reception rather than the internal.

There is no inherent improvement with an external antenna verse an internal antenna of the same gain (RF shape, radiating pattern). This is particularly true of plastic cased TX bodies and properly laid out components.

The X20, X20S has two internal antennas. The radiation pattern is very well setup and avoids the possibility of damaging the external antenna. I have had no range issues using the internal antenna. So why try to re invent the wheel, it's already perfect.

Agreed - The internals are great. I find external antennas are actually a bit of a risk. They are more prone to damage in transport and use. The quality of external antennas is hit or (usually) miss even when brand new. A poor performing antenna can actually damage the RF chip in the radio causing much more trouble down the road. (Especially if you are removing the external after every flying day so the radio goes back into a travel case.)

FrSky is really good with the internal antennas except on the Horus X12S where we do suggest using the external antenna. All radios since the X12 that have internal antennas have been GREAT.
